U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

I think treating NO as a nuclear war zone would probably put many of these decisions in the proper perspective.

There was the free trip across country in a private jet. And there was the complimentary bottle of water — wonderfully ice-cold water — handed to her upon her arrival.

Elaine West savored them both Sunday as she helped lead the first trickle of what could become a wave of survivors of Hurricane Katrina into California.

"I think I might stay here," said the grateful 52-year-old former candy maker as she surveyed Los Angeles from a hilltop next to the Hollywood Freeway.

She quietly told of being driven out of her Uptown New Orleans home, not by rising floodwaters but by vandals who looted her neighborhood and by gunfire that killed two of her neighbors.

"I don't see myself ever going back to New Orleans again," she said. "Even to visit."

the White House reached out to Blanco's office Sunday, but didn't hear back, and White House staff in Louisiana spoke with Blanco early Monday.

What is it with Blanco never being available for hours on end?

And this trip was announced on FRIDAY, FGS.

More incompetence. Why is she insisting on keeping the NG under her control? That's just one more layer to slow things down......NG having to check with the military!

Forbes on FOX stating the prez is paying a political price. Nitwits. Just because the MSM says something doesn't make it true in real America. Get out of the Beltway Boys.

Oh.........I'm surprised that he's not going with his Chinooks.

I would have thought they needed them.

So he's going to be in a leadership/organizational role, perhaps?

If you read that post of an e-mail from inside NO from a cop, it sounds like they are thinking 60,000...that is a lot different than 6,000..

Yeppers, we need to keep your post so we can hang it around Witt's neck if he is wrong...I don't know how he can speak conclusively like that at this point.

They are just today going door to door, checking on people, and some of those homes are still so flooded..it will take a long time!

I heard today, that the State of Louisana's & the City of New Orleans had plans written up in case a Cat 5 hurricane hit. Part of these plans were to use the school busses of NOLA to take folks out of the city and to higher ground.
The fact that this was not done, surely is a matter for the officials of LA & NOLA to explain. Busses submerged in NOLA, do precious little good in evacuating refugees.

So, FEMA had to bring in busses from all around the country to make up this shortfall. I suppose though that somehow it is FEMA's fault? Why did FEMA not immediately, by some sort of Star Trek transporter beam, bring in busses from CA or TX or AZ for them to be ready to roll on Tuesday?

The point is that both NOLA & LA knew what would happen if a Cat 5 hit NOLA head-on. They were only hardened to deal with a Cat 3. Both had plans in place to try and deal with a Cat 5 storm which involved mass evacuation. Perhaps these plans were good or bad, but nevertheless they existed. It is simply that the infrastructure of the officials in charge of the NOLA Municipality or the Louisiana State resources, failed to do their job effectively.

If the schoolbuses had been deployed when evacuation was ordered, they would have been able to pick up those who were unable to evacuate and, at the very least, get them to higher gtound in the city or to the Dome or convention center. They did not have to be taken out of the city if traffic was jammed. Many, many drowned. In nursing homes, hospices, attics, and many in their beds because the city did not deploy the buses. Better to be safe in a traffic jam on high gtound, than dead.

Write off Steve Forbes. He just told Neil Cavuto (who was an intern under Carter, by the way) that the President was slow to react and he will pay a political price for it.

You know, I am really getting disgusted. I may just withdraw from political involvement and take up knitting or something. These weasels disgust me.

I just heard Forbes say that.

I thought he was more of an independent thinker than that.

I'm really disappointed that he's regurgitating MSM bile. Stupid.

An additional no fly zone? They have had flight restrictions since Monday. I am guess a lot of private pilots are trying to land at the airport...the military is having a hard time keeping track of all the planes in and out bound....one time I heard they had 300 in the pattern a couple days ago

Why to do we all (sometimes, myself included) think we know more than the people that actually have the facts, education and training to do these jobs? It's hard to believe that replacing the top 100 people trying to save NO with 100 random Freepers would improve things.
