MAYOR CRITICIZED EVEN BEFORE LEVY BREAK. National Hurricane Center Director had to call Nagin at home Saturday night to plead: "Get people out of New Orleans." "The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans.
''I could never sleep if I felt like I didn't do everything that I could to impress upon people the gravity of the situation,'' Mayfield said. ``New Orleans is never going to be the same.''
When a grim Nagin issued the mandatory evacuation order Sunday, he said: ``We are facing a storm that most of us have feared . . . God bless us.''

Well, in between operation chaos and the Patriot Act, that was supposedly true.
Thanks for the ping and the info.
I saw him interviewed my goodness what a fine young man.
No doubt he'll get his rewards.
So much talent, hidden in the cesspool their leaders encouraged them to wallow in. Even more despicably, those same leaders left them to die worse than animals in the Superdome and convention center. I'm just never gonna get over that.
I'm beginning to strongly suspect that Nagin's ability to discern between what is true and what is imaginary is about as reliable as a New Orleans cop during a Hurricane disaster....
Maybe the Governor was trying to save some money or something by not keeping the shelters open, hoping against hope that the big one would never hit N.O.! Its gotta cost something to keep those shelters open, electricity, blankets etc.. I think she and the mayor are toast!
A better idea; make him Mayor of New Orleans -- after all he did more to help the refugees than numbnutz Nagin did!
I am so glad to hear this. I was really beginning to lose faith in my fellow man (of any color, btw)!
I should remember the sharptons, jacksons and now kayne wests of the world really are among the minority of the minorites.
Thank you!
I have not had any problem when I go to other FreeRepublic threads and click on their link sources.
One very important difference between "seamoles" material and what I've posted on #103 this thread is that I've copied the material from the CURRENT NOLA WEBSITE: "City of New Orleans Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan" annex I: Hurricanes.
"seamoles" stuff is for generic evacuations: the material I'm quoting is Hurricane specific, and it's CURRENT!
Ah. I skim read and totally missed that. I'm cross posting your 103 over there now.
Thank you.
My pleasure.
I have been given to understand that it was the US Army Corps of Engineers whose experience and expertise was used to build the Netherlands levees, not the other way around.
"Mayor Nagin reviews the New Orleans Emergency Evacuation Plans for Hurricanes prior to landfall by Katrina"
As far as the NG being able to get around in N.O., I heard most of the street signs were gone...and even locals were getting lost. So how in God's name is a young soldier from Podunk supposed to know how to get to the convention center? Not to mention streets turned into rivers...
Here's some piling-on that will make you wanna throw your lunch. Mayor Nagin is proving to be the biggest POS public figure in our nations history.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for this guy.
