The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

they already did....it didnt work
There is no evidence that the Mississippi is flowing into NO. Even if it were, it would flow out into the lake. I have trouble understanding even if the Mississippi is flowing into the lake, how it could influence its elevation much, for the reasons stated. How is that?
"It's time for decisiveness and action."
Another reason to thank those few Florida voters in 2000.
Hopefully W will take over this mess.
Character really does matter, good leaders are essential in times of crisis.
Bush's response after 911 was superb. We need the same type of leadership now.
They kept saying they were going to open outbound lanes but I never saw any myself and wondered why.
I love that guy. That is outstanding.
She's late. The prayers stated a few days ago.
He has a very detached attitude.
No, refer to the post I replied to. What is he supposed to do about water rising to the Superdome?
OK -- so in a worst-case scenario, it looks like the water level isn't likely to rise much more than six more feet.
She has a bed to sleep in, food and water, and perhaps even a pet she was not forced to abandon to a horrid death. If only she didn't have to answer so many questions from reporters.
Anything besides yukking it up with Larry King.
Absolutely! You would be making a fortune in the not too distant future too!
I think so, too.
Obviously he and Blanco are puppets for somebody. Nobody that stupid could get elected without somebody behind them.
The elite loves it, most have been there, and loved it, and the media is the elite, so that was my point. I just thought the place was fantastic myself. I am so grateful for the time I spent in paradise lost.
my friend...I used to live in New Orelans. There is a REASON why the reporters arent venturing into the streets without cops. There is a reason why they arent in the streets after dark. Most of New Orleans is a ghetto and the only people that stayed are not the types that you want to run into all alone.
"Plus they are preparing 53,000 lbs"
Hopefully that number is misprint.
He's such an idiot!
I've seen TWC with some live/semi-live updates lately. Between that, NOLA.com's blog-like dispatches, and here, that's your best shots of info.
They is one way in and out I heard..They are not everywhere, Torie. Most of NO is reached by boat at this time...I 10 was being used for helo landings and boats were delivering rescued people to 10..Through Crescent City I believe is the one way out...west...The city is in trouble because of mother nature and where it is located.and areas surrounding NO have trouble, too.
I did not say the Guard was all over NO.Look at the videos and you will see the problems.
Houston is housing many in shelters.

The gov and the mayor are wishing they had a plan. The prez has FEMA, the U.S. Navy, the Coast Guard, the Marines, and the Corp of Engineers actually enacting one. Actions are louder than words, and that has been one of Bush's greatest consistencies.
