Starwise -

Since you were watching CNN, did you see the interview w/the man who had lost his wife and appeared to be in shock? He said his house split in half.

I'm still in tears. And now there's word in that one of the levees has been breached and they're clearing out 2 hospitals? I'm afraid the folks in NO are going to wake up to a nightmare tomorrow.

This is almost the worst case. The flooding will fill the bowl of the main part of the city. It is just as if the storm surge had overtopped the levee, but will take a bit longer. If they can't plug that leak, it will flood to sea level, 8-12 deep in much of the city. The FQ and Superdome are above sea level, but the flooding just got much worse.

Water rising an inch every 5 mins at Tulane University per CNN. 17th St. Rd. and Canal levee is breeched per the police and they must evacuate the critical patients by helicopter. the water is too high for ambulances.

This is another horror in the making .. 1" of water coming in every 5 mins.... the rate is increasing .. frightening .. 6 ft. of water at the hospital on Canal St. and all through the main business district of downtown New Orleans .. due to the 2-block long breech in the levee I mentioned before ... allowing the water in Lake Ponchartrain to pour out.

They're talking to FEMA right now about evacuating the hospital ... Holy God .. this is deadly .. that Lake is going to kill even more people.. how can this be salvaged??

NO may yet drown - the only good thing is that it's happening slowly. People have one more chance to get the hell out.

This is really bad. From what I've seen on the news much of the levy system is just sand and rock built up to a certain height. If there is a breach 2 blocks wide, and the flow is increasing, it means that the flow is eroding the levy. This could mean a rapid failure of the levy.

Yes ... I did .. that was heartbreaking ..his wife said "You can't hold onto me .. take care of the children and grandchildren" .. and then she was gone. Poor lost soul.

And this new water disaster that's happening now in NO is going to be unbelievably horrible .. I can't imagine how they can hold bake the Lake Ponch ... oh God ....

(about the bridge): I believed what you heard - my husband saw the mayor say the same thing: "gone" - I posted the article as the only story I could find on the bridge at the time... news is coming in fast again tonight.. very troubling & confusing.

If it's that big, the Corps isn't going to be able to use their emergency patch systems in the area, I think. Going to have to sink some awfully big ship in the gap or something.
