His last report was that he was south of Lake Ponchartrain. His crew at least was able to call for help for these people.

Did you hear the answer: That there are a lot of dead people down there. What question was he answering?

The reporter asked the Governor what his worst fear was.

Before he was cut off, I did see the folk in the back ground applauding him over some statement he made about the border. I couldn't hear exactly what he said because the anchor started talking over him. I'm hoping it was a very positive respond from the audience over a solution to solve the Border crisis!

Stay safe and be careful venturing out afterwards - make sure the trailing feeder bands have passed.

I'm about 15 miles south of Jackson near hwy 49. The weather is deteriorating quickly. The trees are bending like grass in a windy field. Our power is intermittant and will likely go out for good soon.

Thanks. Keep me informed as long as you can.

like when he announced the pope's death a day ahead of time, so I wouldn't take his word for it.

Anchors only repeat what they are TOLD from the control room. Can't blame Shep for that one.

Yeah, we have a stationary front stretching from Western Illinois, across Michigan, into Canada. It doesn't look good for the folks in your area.

WWL:

Houma got minimal hurricane winds, no major structural damage visible by reporter. Damage noticeably increased as they drove to NO. Expressway in Westwego(south side of Miss. River) was impassable in places, structural damage in town, heavy damage.

After they take care of their immediate needs, I'd say the folks in NO need to ask themselves some hard question about how their pumps are maintained.

Agree - that, and they badly need to re-examine their disaster plans, their evacuation plans (or lack of), and the competence of their elected officials. Frankly, the situation in NO seems like it was a bit of a "fustercluck". If the storm hadn't jogged east it could have been much worse, and it's bad enough as it is (and we don't even know how bad it truly is yet).

they haven't gotten the worst yet..my in-laws are there in Lamar Co. I was watching stream wjtv.com out of Jackson and they said hurricane force+ winds should be in the Hattiesburg area in about 1/2 hour..current weather.com shows 50+ winds..gusts to 70..

Thank you for the response. I pray they're with friends and are safe.

"Do you have a polar bear suit?"

No bear suit...the only effective defense against bears that I know of is a gun. When you hike outside of the city in Alaska, it's best to carry a gun in your backpack (or two guns if you prefer, in case the first one jams.) If you encounter a bear, stay quiet then back slowly away from the bear and hope he doesn't notice you and he's not hungry. Use the gun as a last resort and aim right between his beady eyes.
