Fallen trees and downed power lines litter downtown Houma .. Houma Courier

HOUMA - A half hour before Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter allowed deputies back on parish streets, 911 Director Mark Boudreaux helped me secure a seat on the fire chief’s four-wheel-drive truck.

Boudreaux had an ulterior motive, for he wanted Bubba to transport him to the Communications District building on Capitol Boulevard so he could check damage. Luckily for emergency dispatchers, the building was OK. Oddly, the sound of croaking frogs was loader than the whistling wind.

But all along Hwy. 311, broken trees, fallen branches, tattered signs and disconnected power and cable lines littered Houma’s main thoroughfares. Perhaps the most damage in the city was downtown, where split hardwood and oak trees and shredded metal from tin roofs could be found on nearly every block. [end snip]
