Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

Some random thoughts...

Just watched some college students on FNC at the Super Dome. They seem to be smiling, enjoying this like it was a like cutting class...

Gad! The stupidity of this make me cringe...

I cannot help but expect the worse for New Orleans... Call it my black dog mood, but I feel helpless as if watching two trains speeding head on at each other and not being able to do anything...

The D-Day Museum in in New Orleans along with many other historical sites. All these may be under 20 to 30 feet of water.

My prayers are for those in Katrina's path not only in New Orleans but in the surrounding Gulf Coast area.

The mayor should be in jail IMHO. He had NO plan if you ask me.

If so, there is no excuse for this. They should loose their certification/licenses. Bless the one that stayed.

"WWL-TV just noted that the SuperDome's single primary generator is underground... No word on any secondary generators."

They'd better have plenty of candles then.

How long does eye wall replacement take? If the process is still going on at landfall, that is great news. If there is time for eyewall to complete, that is BAD news. Last night there was a huge spike of power after replacement.

Anyone remember how long it took? When is projected landfall?

interesting. But, could it complete the ERC before landfall and strengthen again?

The NO mayor was just on a few minutes ago and they are expecting the levees to break.

That's too much. My prayers to all who face this danger, may the Good Lord protect them and keep them, and may His Perpetual Light shine upon them.

Um, that would probably be the stealth one, who is usually assigned to following me around to make sure I don't spam key words.

I am on the ABC affiliate out of Baton Rouge -- some of the New Orleans people are there at the Baton Rouge station.

I've never seen two such simpletons in charge as that governor and that mayor.

He didn't think he had the AUTHORITY to evacuate his city? Well, who did?

The word moron was the first that occurred to me also. I actually typed it in and returned to remove it. I didn't want to add any insult to the NO inhabitants insulting their mayor.

I agree with you. He couldn't even read the order. It was rather embarassing. I'm sure he was nervous, but it made me uncomfortable to watch him. He sure wouldn't promote confidence in me if I lived in NO.
