Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

...they are expecting the levees to break..."

Heard that earlier, too. If they do, NO is history. so sad. Spent many wonderful evenings there listening to jazz at nite and attending Cajun cooking school during the day. Bought my favorite cooking pot there--a cast iron wok that will give one a hernia to get it down from the rack--but never mind--a Cajun meal from it will put one in bed for a week.

WWL-TV is streaming (somehow) from Baton Rouge. http://www.wwltv.com

And yes, they're broadcasting from a college set with a bad greenscreen behind them - but they're still on the air, still in there - without teleprompters.

TORNADO WARNING FOR... PLAQUEMINES PARISH IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA

I'd be surprised if anyone is still there, but it's an unusual place.

Recreational activities include shark hunting on Leander Perez's fishing boat - with a machine gun. Big fun.

That guy is a moron. Earlier today he talked about a seven foot levee that would be overflowed but he said it was a pretty levee.

My mom made the pretzels at Xmas and we just went crazy for them. Since then, we've probably gone thru about 50 bags of Kisses! My daughter and I joke about how much chocolate we've eaten in 8-9 months.

AND you can get the kisses in all flavors now. Our fav is the vanilla/chocolate kisses. Yum!

"That makes two of us."

Make that at least three of us. But I was lambasted for saying so.

Now I'll just go back to my seat, keep a low profile and continue praying.
