Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Because it's Bush's fault.... :)

I think a prayer thread would be a good idea at this point.

I'm with you cgk. I think when the world wakes up tomorrow and realizes this was not a made for TV movie, many more will be somber.

I think Matthews stole it from Geraldo, who ripped it from The Associated Press.

Has anyone thought about James Carville and his Carville, Louisiana Leprosy refuge? That's close to NO, right?

I have no idea...:-) Anyway, I thought Carville was from North Louisiana up in yankee territory. Or am I thinking of Terry Bradshaw?

Yes, Greg says you're right. Now, tell me what that means, in practical terms, in relation to tonight's storm.
Well, thanks Greg.

In practical terms, it means that the design limit of 120 mph will likely be exceeed, beyond which, we will see what the 'as built'/as constructed limits really are ...

I heard on Fox that they were allowing cigarettes but they could not be smoked inside. I can see the news report: '400 smokers, who were smoking on the outside smoking deck to the Louisiana Super Dome, were swept away by 200 MPH hurricane force winds. All persons are believed missing. Because of strict smoking regulations at the Super Dome, all smokers were required to confine their smoking at a specially designated area on the south side of the Super Dome. It is believed that all 400 smokers, who were complying with the smoking regulations, were exposed to the full force of hurricane winds, and were lost believing they were protected by the safety of the Louisiana Super Dome.'

Janice Dean is also a meteorologist. She knows what's going to happen, and she has many friends there.

Matthews is talking to Senator David Vitter, the first Republican Senator of LA, who sounds fabulous!!!!
FEMA Director is already on the ground in Louisiana, he says.
It could take months to completely drain New Orleans, he says.

Matthews asks such idiotic questions. "Can the pumps keep working during the storm?" DUH

This guy is on the phone, sounds so impressive explaining the pumps, the levies, and their limitations.

It's also been 5 hours that you've been complaining about me complaining about her.

What's that tell you?

Is there any reason why military transports weren't used to get these people out rather than putting them in the dome?

I wonder, if the eye passes directly over NO - is it wide enough to put the whole city and the lake outside the windfield for a significant portion of the storm?.
