Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

what kind of structure is she in? concrete, wood frame?

It's a good solid brick home. They do have a potential problem with a couple of trees. Water is not a threat. At least she tried to get out. These other friends of mine have no excuse but I requesat prayers for them as well...:-)

We getting any more Vortex reports tonight?

I haven't seen a new one on the server recently, but I would imagine that there should be one coming up.

The E is proportional to v2, not v3. v3 is for supersonic shock waves. That's over ~750 MPH.

If you watched the foks coming into the superdome, many many smokers, something tells me this is an ordinance that may just be bent a little bit tonight.

Exactly.

What kind of sense it that, to allow them to bring their smokes & lighters?

They gonna step outside for a smoke-o?

Yeah, I can see them enforcing the "No smoking" order. Not!

What about St. Francesville? I cannot remember off hand where it's located in relation to NO, but I DO remember the beautiful plantation homes. Rosedown. And what is the name of the supposedly haunted one?

Just asking some get your mind off the disastor questions..Prayers up for you and your family. Stay safe. Regards, SVITW

How far west does it need to fall before NO is spared major harm?

At its current size? Port Arthur, Texas.

Tell her about busting through the roof if she is in an attic. If she has an ax or something like it.

Yes, Greg says you're right. Now, tell me what that means, in practical terms, in relation to tonight's storm.

I'm surprised at how little the people are carrying in. Most have only one back pack, and I've only seen a few people with water.

They were telling people ealier not to bring much as the screeners have to go through everything.

I think it borders on the absurd, but in today's world...

Chris Matthews calling it a catastrophe of biblical proportions.

He must have been watching Geraldo.....

I'd almost bet that when it all goes down... the levy's will hold... and the storm surge will be less than expected. It's going to be okay.

Not likely to go down this way. New Orleans is not a coastal city. The flooding will come quickly, but I wouln't think with the same force you had along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi.
