Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Not just that, but they are checking everyone's medication, and you better have a picture ID that matches the prescription...
I can see what they are doing, but it is a little late..are they going to take someone's meds if they forgot their license ...and that woman without insulin..if she goes more than a few hours without that, and/or food, that could be a death sentence.
Now, having said that---any diabetic that leaves their house without their "kit" is a fool!
There are some great historical treasures that will be lost.
This thread is turning into a carnival. If you think I'm riding the high horse that's your problem. We are about to lose a city of 1.5 million, but I guess I could just sing along... in 1814 we took a little trip, along with....
If you watched the foks coming into the superdome, many many smokers, something tells me this is an ordinance that may just be bent a little bit tonight.
Wind speeds are around 60mph at SWpass expected to climb
in the next hours.
Gosh I love it down there, sure going to make some changes!
A lot of storm surge expected to cross the delta from the east.
Bet you also know the words to "Swamp Fox" (be careful --we're showing our age).
Gee, what a surprise.
Durn, but that's an ironic nick.
Thank you. I'll do that. I will be praying right along with you...:-)
It was a large seaplane.
If you look carefully at the first picture you will see the nose of a larger one, smashed beneath the hanger.
They flew to the Bahamas on a regular basis.
There are too many people here who seem to want the dome to turn into a Irwin Allen disater movie. It won't.
******
Yeah and not even God could sink the Titanic. There is not enough money in the world to put me in that thing....I'd be goin with the turtles and snakes first.
Thanks - tell 'em we are praying for their safety.
Watching the Port of NO webcams as they have those nifty shipping containers that ought to fly real good when the wind kicks up. It's dark and raining, but the lights are still on.
Except for one thing -- the pumps may not work at all if they're completely underwater. In which case NO doesn't get pumped out for considerably longer, if at all
I guess those smokers can't go outside to smoke either, that's gonna be tough for them. Time to quit! They definitely don't need alcohol, people get weird on that stuff.
Unlikely; the force exerted wind follows a sqare law effect - quadruple the wind spped and the force is = 42 or sixteen times greater
NO. NOT SQUARED; IT'S CUBED!!!
Learned that researching wind energy production.
I'm doin' good...guess your state side...so how are you doing? ;o)
Lighten up.....we don't need to be lectured on how serious this storm is.
Will pray for your sister.
WDSU-TV is back up, but not from their studios - it looks like they're broadcasting from their sister station WESH-TV Orlando.
