Happy the numbers are holding. Hey, that sketch is pretty good.
Thankfully holding.
The image came about due to looking down at the lawn and seeing a face in the grass.
Which I then drew and eventually turned into the sketch.
But it did try to take up permanent residence first.
Happens with sketches that are slightly beyond my current skill or ability to due.
Like, say, a sketch that would need a model to be sketched from to get the shape and form 'right'.
I currently have three sketches stuck in my head that won't leave due to just that situation.
*chuckle*
I understand what you mean. I guess is an artistic symptom the kind of symptom writers, painters, or poets have once they get an idea in their heads.
Yes.
Somebody once said that "It is great to have this kind of creativity, but it comes at a steep price."
They weren't kidding.
*chuckle*
The worst is when an idea shows up in the middle of the night with enough 'force' to wake me up.
Because I then cannot get back to sleep without first scribbling down at least a vague outline or rough idea of what I'd like to have on paper.
Hmmm, that sounds like the genius mind at work, hehe.
Written on the wall behind the pulpit of the church we attended in my teens were these words: "The Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him" (Habakkuk 2:20). And keep silence we did! All eight of us boys said nothing to one another as we sat waiting for the service to begin. I loved this quiet time and often succeeded in pushing thoughts about girls and the Detroit Tigers out of my mind. The best I could, I tried to reflect on the wonder of God and His salvation. And in the silence I often sensed His presence. Today we live in a noisy world. Many people can't even drive without music blaring from their car, or the beat of the bass vibrating their vehicle. Even many church services are marked more by noise than by quiet reflection. In ancient times the pagans cried out in a noisy frenzy to their idols (1 Kings 18:25-29). In sharp contrast, the psalmist saw the wisdom of silence, because in quiet reverence God can be heard. In the stillness of the night under a starry sky, in a hushed sanctuary, or in a quiet room at home, we can meet the living God and hear Him speak. The psalmist's words are relevant today: "Wait silently for God alone" (Psalm 62:5). Herb Vander Lugt
While I wait on Thee; Hushed my heart to listen In expectancy. Grimes To hear God's voice, turn down the world's volume.
Keeping Our Appointments With God What Is A Personal Relationship With God? |
Thank you, Mayor
Special prayers today for our armed forces members and those in the path of the hurricane.
Amen Meg, this looks like it is going to be one heck of a storm.
Cat 5 aiming right at New Orleans, just heard sustaining 155+ winds.
Good morning, Rus! God bless you this beautiful Sunday morning. Thank you for your lesson in God's Word. When we keep silent is when we hear God speak to us.
Have a wonderful day! See ya after church!
Amen.
I have great faith in the Lord - but absolutely NONE in officials in Lousiana. Their incompetence is going to cost lives.
While the winds now are placed at 160 mph, that is not
*the record* for one hitting the States.
Went to About.com (Ask Jeeves) for the answer:
What was the most intense hurricane to strike the US?
The answer:
"Over the Labor Day weekend in 1935, a hurricane struck the Florida Keys. With record-setting low barometric pressure of 892 mb, the tiny island of Islamorada had little chance of avoiding annihilation. 390 died in the event, as the Keys were not yet very populated. Roads, buildings, viaducts, bridges and the railroad were completely wiped out.
The Labor Day Hurricane sustained winds are estimated
to have reached almost **200** miles per hour.
Also - - What was the costliest hurricane on record?
" As most of Florida will remember, the costliest hurricane of all time was Hurricane Andrew. Andrew struck in 1992 and devastated the Homestead and southern Miami-Dade areas with sustained winds of over 156 miles per hour. The estimated cost damage was $26.5 billion. After predicting for days that the storm was taking a northerly course, most people in Miami and Homestead were unprepared for the change in path that took in through the Homestead Air Force Base and the Country Walk area. Post-Andrew construction had extremely different standards, including storm shutters being required when selling a new home.
What was the deadliest hurricane on record?
A 1900 hurricane slammed into Galveston, Texas killing 8,000 people. A category 4 hurricane, it struck the island with sustained winds of 140 miles per hour. With no radar, tracking, or predictions, there were no preparations made for the storm. The highest elevation in Galveston in 1900 was 8.7 feet; the 15.7 foot storm surge covered the homes and businesses like an ocean. It cost $20 million at the time; in todays money, the damage would have cost $700 million. After the hurricane, Galveston raised a sea wall and increased the grade of the island to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
THINK OF NEW ORLEANS bearing this *ADDED* problem, on top of the original dump...
Terribly serious situation, far beyond the initial impact.
My grandmother and her family left Galveston, vacationing, just before the great hurricane in 1900..The story was that mother and I possibly existed because of good timing and the Grace of God.
Sustained winds now at 175 in this hurricane...
It's a beautiful day in New Orleans..I hope people are not fooled and do pay attention to the news.
And for that, I especially thank Him, MEG..:))
Beautiful summer day here - blue skies - 85 degrees - but need to get some groceries before several days of rain arrive...more to say later about my parents in a Florida hurricane...
Katrina is twice as powerful now than the minimal hurricane she was when she came ashore in Florida last Thursday, and damage estimates -- and these are very preliminary -- for Dade County alone top $2 billion. So you can imagine what the residents of Louisiana are in for. Please pray.
There's still a million things I have to do, so this is just a driveby to say THANKS! And a special THANK YOU, Vermonter! Great talking to you, good buddy :-) And dansangel, I'm praying for you. Praying for all Florida freepers and for freepers in Louisiana.
Well, I betta post this before my connection goes out again! ;-)
Wuv y'all and see you SOON!

I brought the hurricane up in church this morning.
Before I left the house it was 160+, now it's at 175?
That is scarry and Meg you are right, the incompetant politico's are costing lives, they should have called for evacuation yesterday at the earliest.
I fear many will not be able to get out because of the volume of traffic and the lack of gas and public transportation.
Good to see you and hear your safe Sir..
Prayers for all facing this devastating storm.
Praying for those in New Orleans and all along the Gulf Coast. Am afraid that our lives as we know it will never be the same after this storm goes through.
Good to see you got on line. I know it looked doubtful when we talked.
As to the thanks, don't forget, it was YOU who called ME when I was anticipating Charlie hitting us at any moment.
Glad to be of what ever help I could be.
Katrina is looking to do its best to wipe out New Orleans. Those folks need to be in our prayers!
Thanks!
The surreal stuff tends ot be due to me purging stuff from my head.
Otherwise, it builds up.
However, there are some sketch ideas that refuse to be purged until done 'right'.
I cannot explain it adequately, and probably shouldn't even try, but the above is as close to an explanation and description that I can get.
