A few of FR's Finest....Every Day....08-23,24-05....What's in a Name?

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, Dutchess, Aquamarine, DollyCali ~

Let's talk about FR screen names. How did you choose yours? Do you use your real name, a nickname, a silly name, a celebrity's name, your pet's name, or some other? Funny? Or serious?

With as many registered users as FR has, we are sure to see some highly unusual monikers. The first thing I thought of when I saw this name was:

Feiny (read more about her in our 09-18-02 Finest thread), as we like to call her, resides in California, and this is how she told us her screen name came about:

"I had a tough time coming up with a screen name. I tried several & they were not available. I remembered that my other half (do not call him Mr. Sukass) had called Diane Feinstein another name…..'Feinswine'. He said that is how he & his friends used to refer to her in San Francisco. For some strange reason, Feinswine was not available…so I added suksass..and PRESTO…I was a FReeper."

Let's talk about logos. If *you* had a logo, what would it be - your name? a favorite hobby? something you collect? Would we think of you each time we see a particular item? Those of us with regular, plain screen names sometimes get a nickname chosen *for* us, and it somehow sticks. With thanks to ST.LOUIE1 (who is much better known at the Finest as *Wolfie*), "Billie" soon became "BillieBlue", with a little bluebird as my sig.

I wanted to post a Few of Our Finest' logos here, and will post more later in the thread. Please feel free to show your own, and tell us why you chose your name. :)

Above is an early logo I made for Aqua based on her name, but after getting to know her better, as a sistah and hostess at the Finest, the following one - which she chose - fits her southern personality much better.

You've been seeing this guy at the Finest for a little over three years. He usually comes up for air once or twice a day to check in with us. :)

Our Fair Lady ... God bless her loving heart - she never runs out of kisses or interesting things to say.

Even before he grew into the suave, dashing and debonair wolfie he is now (in the photo below), he was still a bit of a rake and a rogue...but every bit as irresistible! (Plus he's helped me with some of the logos for today!) :*

Wolfie's partner in crime - that fox jwfiv....Yip AhRooooo!

Let us never have to wonder what the Finest would be like without Rev. Nan. :)

Or the honorable Mayor and his purple cup and daily devotional, not to mention his devotion to our Military and bringing us Military Monday week after week.

The distinguished and wise Mr.Owl, who diligently watches over us from his lofty perch.

MamaBear, aka Lori, always the fashion maven, shows off some of her jewels, furs and delightful chapeaus.

Yep! That's our Pipster! Any questions?! (((((((((Pip)))))))))

Amy has soooooo many logos (compliments of her 'bro') it's hard to choose which one to use, so I asked Louie to send me one of her favorites.

Hello, Dolly - it's so nice to see you here where you belong - on your bicycle, of course! :)

One of our most recent, and most patriotic! screen names - and even sweeter than this little angel. :)

As dutchess flies off into the wild blue yonder, I wish you all a beautiful good morning, and once again, my thanks to ST.LOUIE1, for some of these great logos you see above, and others that will be posted on the thread. Don't go way now! We've just begun to have fun!

Doing okay Gabz. Nothing spectacular. Just tried to see Mars, but couldn't locate it. They say it will be the size of the full moon. Oh well - such an exciting life...

Nothing spectacular is not bad :)

Oh I wish I had known about Mars - hubby and child would have LOVED looking for that.

While he will never admit it (and I would never ask him to do so) I know part of the reason hubby built an upstairs deck was specifically for night sky watching.....and it is wonderful to me how much time he and Jax spend up there with and without the telescope.

Eventually this ankle will be better and I can return to being up there with them :) I just can't handle the steps right now, I have more than enough trouble with the 4 just getting in and out of the house....

Hi, Billie:

My screen name comes from months of playing "Delta Force 2" and other Shooters on line. In need of a cool sounding game name, I immediately thought of a little known time jumping, sci-fi B-Movie named "Trancers" and it's main character; Jack Deth. Played by the gruff, scruffy, always under-rated Character Actor, Tim Thomerson.

When I started FReeping, the name just seemed like a natural.

Jack.

It is great reading how everyone got their names. Hey, Auntie, where is my logo? You know you are the graphic queen of the family. Babychick would like one appropriately adorable, she says! lol

I knew my fuzzybear was just itching to know why I wanted it. : )

I did wonder, but I knew there was a good reason. :-)

I have some other logos that I want to post (all made by the amazing and talented wolfie),

ALL of them? LOL!!

No, not worry.....not ALL of them, silly wolf. I will post some of them tomorrow, along with the fascinating story about how I chose "Mama_Bear" for my screen name. LOL

Took the Chach to his first puppy class, just orientation tonight. He fell asleep half way through class. I hope this isn't a bad omen. LOL.

Oh, no....I don't think I can handle this pressure! I'll try to live up to my graphic queen (of the family) title, but I have to tell you that I am hyperventilating already. LOL

I don't know if you remember Astonished, but she was my roommate for a while and she is the one who started me on FR.

Until I got my own computer, I would post under her name signing off as Astonished's Roommate. When I got my own computer, she was the one that gave me my name 'cause I'm a Sassy gal from Dixie, hence Dixie Sass.

Our Main Calling

Read:
Exodus 19:1-8

I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself. —Exodus 19:4

Bible In One Year: 1 Chronicles 7-9

cover In our performance-driven world, Christians often assume that God's main calling on their lives is to work for Him. But working for Christ should be secondary to our devotion to Him. As Oswald Chambers warned: "The greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him."

I encountered this subtle "competitor" soon after the Lord led our family to start a ministry among street addicts. We loved these searching youths, and I devoted my entire attention and energy to helping them experience Christ's saving power.

Then Derek, one of our seekers, ran back to London and to drugs. This loss shocked me into realizing that I had become so absorbed in our work that my devotion to Jesus had lost its importance. God used my distresses as "eagles' wings" to carry me away from my worship of work and back to my first love—Jesus!

God did the same for Israel in Moses' day. He delivered the Hebrews from an impossible taskmaster and brought them on "eagles' wings" back to Himself (Exodus 19:4).

Praise God, Derek soon returned. Meanwhile, I had learned a lesson that's vital for all followers of Jesus. Our God-given work must never compete with our main calling: devotion to Christ. —Joanie Yoder

Striving for souls, I loved the work too well;
Then disappointments came; I could not tell
The reason, till He said, "I am thine all;
Unto Myself I call." —Cowman

Many Christians are strong on service but weak on worship.

Good morning, Gabz!

Just catching up on things posted after I left last night, and see this:
"I have been really down about how badly I have messed up this entire summer for the 2 of them "

From a distant view, seems to me your temporary disability is a "Good Thing" for hubby and Jax.
They will not only have more precious 'together' time, but appreciate more the minutiae of the little and big tasks you routinely do, and are so easy to be taken for granted.

Such setbacks always are seen in a different light in retrospection - - God allows us to go through such things for our benefit, knowing that all fires are intended to 'refine' us..:))

Reshape your thinking to one of appreciation and opportunity, and allow hubby and Jax to enjoy their victories in helping you, and themselves.
It is not your role to 'entertain' Jax, and give her the sun, moon and stars (except for Mars..:)), but to equip her for self-sufficiency and confidence through her picking up the responsibility to do and play and dream by herself....

I suspect you are very good at this, showing her how to garden, sew, cook, read, etc.
Perhaps you can make a little album of photographs of you incapacitated and of Jax and Daddy helping you and doing more things together - - a kind of 'How I Helped Mommy' Album for her satisfaction and pride, and later use for Show & Tell.

"Here is Daddy and me doing the laundry - getting the groceries - cooking - making the beds - cleaning, etc."

Your helping assemble the pictures and label them for her (or help/show her how) will make it all a PLUS+ PLUS+ Thing! rather than a downer.

In days of not so old, few fathers were very active in the day to day bringing up of children. You are blessed!

When I totaled my car 2 years ago and my right arm had to be spliced with a titanium rod, it was in a cast for 6 weeks and then took 5 months of physical therapy before I could get it near enough to just touch my body!
Right arm, of course, and hubby had to learn how to manage the household expenses - write all checks - distribute them - shop for the groceries, etc.; and while I managed to wash my hair and comb it with my left hand, he had to set my hair in curlers all those months!!
LOLOL

Confessing my FR Addiction, for the day after surgery and I went home, it was only about 15 minutes before I was at the computer, training my left hand to manipulate the mouse AND type every letter s-l-o-w-l-y all those months..:))
It was 6 months before I could drive the car again.
