Question:
Ignoring all legal issues....
Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay?
Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?
Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?
What is the difference?
If he is openly gay he is looking for acknowledgement of his sexual behavior (Not appropriate for schooling children). If he is flaming is he wearing a Batman suit to class? (Most definitely not appropriate for schooling children).
If the teacher simply teaches the subject matter (and NOT his/her lifestyle), I couldn't care less about what happens outside the classroom. JMO.
I am a former high school English teacher. I know the kinds of questions kids ask, the way they can come to "adore" a particular teacher, their need to be "in with the teacher," their insecurities. I would never approve of an open homosexual, male or female, teaching in any school below the college level. I would never approve of any practicing homosexual teaching any children of any age. I would hesitate to allow any closeted (so then how would I know?) homosexual near a lower school classroom. If a student is under the age of 18, he or she should not be influenced in any manner by one who practices any perversion.
But if you know, then it has been talked about or at least displayed in some way. Your kid will be learning some unspoken lessons during that year.
Would you hire a homosexual to babysit your child?
So long as they did not talk about their sex lives and whatnot to the students, I wouldn't care. That's the same standard as what I would expect from a straight teacher, FWIW.

He said the teacher was "Openly Gay". Gay lifestyle and possible sex talk would be implied in my opinion with that description.

I have a four year old and don't want a "gay" person with an "alternative lifestyle" as a role model in her young years. A teacher can have a profound impact on the perceptions of a young child.
But here's a question you didn't ask. Would I care if the person were "gay" but they kept it in the closet? (NO)

2) Depends: one the Gender of my kid: I dont think all gays are running around looking for kids but the point is kids can become very fond of a good teacher and I dont want any confusion added to that.

Homosexuality is unrepentant sin, I would personally not want my kid taught by an adulterer or a fornicator but its far less often someone identifies and celebrates their adulterous sin as opposed to their homosexual sin..

I will say this, the only math teacher I have ever had in my life who made math class fun, interesting, and a class I wanted to attend was my pre-calc teacher in college and he was the most flaming homosexual I have ever encountered.
I think it would make a big difference in how I interacted with that teacher, and possibly how I felt toward their authority/credibility.

Not really. Flaming implies acting like the guys on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. Open means that people just know that a certain person is not straight.
The problem with the the gay community is that they keep putting in the refrences to "Transgender" in most of their demands. This freaks people out. Even a gay person would have to say that a guy walking around in a dress with earings and wanting to chop off his penis has issues. But the gays just dont get it. They were making headway years ago but as soon as they started with rights for the "transgendered" too, they lost the fight. I think this is one of the main reasons for the backlash against the gays.

AS well, seems only a matter of degress and in the eye of the beholder; as to what distinguishes one between 'openly' gay. . .and flaming.
So why go there; keep your private life private. . .as to whether there are other cues as to your 'gayness'; those that are incorporated into your personality are just 'there'; that I can accept. . .and not ponder.
