Question:
Ignoring all legal issues....
Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay?
Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?
Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

As much as I expect to get flamed, a gay male would bother me more than a gay female.

If it was simply known that the teacher was gay, just like one might know that a teacher lives on Elm street, but otherwise it is not talked about at all, and has no impact whatsoever on the quality of the teaching, then I would not care.
That, of course, is a theoretical answer. In reality, I would be very concerned that it would constantly creep into the teaching as it seems to me that a very high proportion of homosexuals are seeking approval and acceptance in almost everything that they do.

As long as the gay lifestyle, or ANY sex talk was never presented, I'd have no issue with it.

As much as I expect to get flamed, a gay male would bother me more than a gay female. Me too, unless the gay male was discreet about it and the gay female was a hard core activist.

Neither! Trans-gender would be better --- then you could say: "Go $crew yourself!"

Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay? Yes, no need to go further, I'd pull my child. Period
I'm a grandfather now, with more wisdom than I had when when I was younger. I might have tolerated it then, to my child's detrement. Of course, they weren't such an open threat then either.

Ditto that. If a teacher (of any stripe) leaves his/her private life at home, no problem.

Pedophiles are gay men that are attracted to young boys, they have a name amoung gay's, they call them "chickenhawks".
I am against gay's of any sex teaching children under the age of 25.
Most are sex addicts, having sex with as many as 1,000 "partners" a year, regradless if they are male or female gays.

For the same reason that I would mind if the teacher was mormon or jehovah'witness, as long as they didn't proseletize it would be their own business.

Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay? No such thing, open and flaming are synonomous terms.

It he/she is not "flaming," how would their sexual preference even come up at school?
If I found out through someone who knows from outside of school, I wouldn't care. Who a teacher sleeps with just should not come up at school. I suppose this would be less problematic with younger grades where sexuality would just not come up at all.
However, even a high school health teacher's own sexual preference, (homo/hetero,pre-marital, etc) should not be a topic for discussion in these classes.
I guess, under those circumstances, I wouldn't care. However, if the teacher was bringing his or her own sexuality into the discussion, I would object, even if they were a married heterosexual.

I prefer my kids' teachers not discuss their sex lives at all.
We had gay teachers but they never, I repeat, never said a word. Our theatre directors were a gay couple who lived together. We went on beach and mountain trips together and they NEVER discussed their relationship.
Teachers aren't supposed to be alone with kids anyway.
To: Dr._Joseph_Warren
None of the above would be all right with me. But then I object to teaching kids (all ages) that homosexuality is just another innate lifestyle and that they need to ask themselves "which orientation" are they, even when it's a heterosexual doing the teaching.
If a sexual deviant wants to teach children, they should at LEAST be obligated to keep their deviant ways hidden. You wouldn't want an openly anything else deviant teaching the kids. Kids, especially the younger ones, tend to really look up to their teacher. At minimum, they are subject to their teacher's authority. It ought to be an authority worthy of respect.
To: Dr._Joseph_Warren
It would depend on the age of my kid and the class.
If it was junior high or younger and the teacher was a gym teacher, forget about it.

As long as the gay lifestyle, or ANY sex talk was never presented, It's because I don't think this is possible, that I'd have a problem with it.
My concern is less about what the teacher does behind closed doors, and more that his/her homosexuality would be used as a "teaching moment." For this reason I'd have lots of problems with an openly gay teacher.

Yes, No, No.
No teacher that I know of is "openly straight". If I know that he/she is gay that's already too much.
