After reading multiple posts related to a certain individual flip flopping about our President's demeanor when meeting with families who have lost a loved one at war, I have decided it is time to post a vanity about meeting our President. If anyone has had a similar experience please feel free to post your experience also. It may be helpful to go on the record and put how our President really treats Military Families. My husband and I both had the honor to meet Air Force One and shake hands with the President last year on Earth Day. He took time to talk with each individual that was allowed to on the tarmac. He spent just a brief few minutes with my husband and I but our meeting was entirely different from what Ms. Sheehan describes. The first big difference is that he knew our names and the names of all three of our sons serving. When I shook hands with him he had a big friendly smile on his face. He then kept my hand and held my hand with both of his. He stated that he knew the last year had been rough and that he hopes we understand just how important our son's duty and our support meant to our country. When he spoke about hard times he wasn't jovial at that point but very serious and very caring. I looked deep into our President's eyes and saw nothing but compassion for our family. My husband thanked our President for taking a hit in the polls over speaking our against photographing our fallen troops arriving back into the US. The President stated that he was glad to take the hit in order to maintain privacy. After our brief meeting we were then allowed to ride in the motorcade to the reserve for the speech. Our son in the Marine corp was already at the reserve. Our meeting with him was pointed out in his speech and he asked for my son to stand up. He then gave my son an order to tell his brothers that applause at this event was not just to him but for them too. My son acknowledged the order with a salute which the President returned. Note. Mom couldn't see well by then. After the speech we were then allowed to ride back to the airport in the motorcade. You just don't know how tempting it is to make a big L sign on your forehead to protestors riding behind the President! If our President is this compassionate meeting with a family who hasn't lost a loved one, Ms. Sheehan's version of his behavior makes no logical sense. |

They learned this successful tactic from the VVAW. No matter that people who allow their grief to be exploited are a vanishingly small number : they were in the 1970's, too, but the media makes them seem like a lot more.
Us too. Most of us know better but the media goes with the nut case.
I recently flamed CODE PINK at their site and lo and behold, I'm on their mailing list. Just received this e-mail:
Dear CODEPINK activists in Aurora, Chicago, and the surrounding area,
Bush will be in Aurora, Illinois this Wednesday, 8/11, and CODEPINK would like to organize an emergency rally and vigil in solidarity with the Crawford vigil.
CODEPINK and Military Families Speak Out would like to have a presence everywhere Bush goes, and in order to do that we need a handful of volunteers to create a visual pink presence and field press calls after issuing a press release and organizing the vigil.
Please call on all the CODEPINKers in your area to help.
We know this is short notice but we just got the call to make it happen. Please contact Whitney at whit@codepinkalert.org or at 310.827.3046 (office) or 323.595.9169 to help coordinate an action!
Thanks so much,
Whitney and the CODEPINK staff
Thanks for your post and this thread. Going into work this morning, I caught the ABC News about the sucessful Space Shuttle landing. Right after that news of more bombs in Iraq and then a piece about the Sheenan woman's "vigil". I found my self yelling at the car radio and calling her unprintable names.Same on CNN last night. The MSM will stop at nothing to bash Bush and the war. And both them and her are pawns of the far left - hate America crowd.
Mystery, I understand the niggly ambivalence, but you are decent .. you have integrity, wisdom and are mentally stable. God forbid anything that grave would happen to one of your military guys, you would NEVER ... could NEVER sink to such despicable depths.
I think I'll email this thread to old Whit!
Thank you.
God bless your, your family, your son and our president.
Bump!
Your restraint is admirable. I'd phrase it more strongly, as the omission of such things is deliberate.
I just sent this thread to her ...it's a symbiotic thing: they're using Ms. Sheehan and feeding her martyrdom tendency and she's using them.
"they're using Ms. Sheehan and feeding her martyrdom tendency and she's using them..."
Exactly. I found it of interest since it's in my neck of the woods, and might stop by to watch the moonbats in action.
bttt
FREEP 'EM !! Get a group together .. let them know there are people who aren't swallowing their venomous kool aid. Call your local American Legion and VFW posts for support and bodies.
Shame on them, is right. It is their agenda to do anything they can to try to bring the President down in the eyes of the people who listen to or read the mainstream media and press. Thankfully, people now have alternatives to the brainwashing of the major media with FoxNews and the Internet, which includes FR and blogs like PowerLine.
This thread looks like one for many returns.
Thanks, armymarinemom!
Great post. Your boys are heroes proved.
Even that mother in Crawford said nice kind words about Presdient Bush RIGHT AFTER it happened. My, how her tune has changed since she's joined the left wing socialist groups.
She's a nut case and I'm sure her son is looking down from heaven asking himself what happened to his mom.
She claimed in an interview she was not involved in politics before this. I have heard Freepers allege otherwise though but haven't seen much proof yet.
Her husband, who Cindy says supported her in May, now is against her activism, and the couple is separated. I wonder why.
He has done that several times with the family of the only solider designated as missing: Sgt. Matt Maupin of Batavia, Ohio.
