July 20, 2005: About 35,000 non-citizens are currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, while another 12,000 serve in the Reserve Components. The navy has the largest proportion of non-citizens on active duty, almost 16,000, nearly half the total. The Marine Corps has about 6,500, the Army about 5,000, and the Air force about 3,000. The differences are the result of variations in the service regulations governing the re-enlistment of non-citizens. The Navy and Marine Corps place no restrictions, while the Army allows them to stay in for only 8 years of service, and the Air Force limits them to no more than 6. This is to encourage the non-citizen troops to become naturalized citizens. But naval tradition, the world over, has long tolerated non-citizens serving on ships for their entire careers. All services encourage non-citizens to apply for citizenship at the earliest opportunity, and many do. Some aliens in the service have been granted U.S. citizenship posthumously.
Non-citizens appear to make better soldiers and sailors. This can best be seen by their lower attrition rates. During their first three months of service, the attrition rate for citizens was nearly 11-percent, while that for non-citizens was just under 6-percent. At the 36 month mark, the attrition rate for citizens was approximately 32-percent, as against slightly under 19-percent for non-citizens.
Non-citizens serving in our armed forces is nothing new. Only the numbers change. It is a great way to earn citizenship. Heck, we've millions of citizens that would not risk their lives to keep they citizenship they have. Having non-citizens risk their lives to gain US citizenship is noble. I've no qualms with this ongoing practice.
Well, you've got one big problem. In order to run for the President, Tancredo has to give up his Congressional seat.
Apparently he promised Buchanan that he would do that when Buchanan set him up with his "Team America" fund-raising organization and website.
But Tancredo likes the Congressional tag and he's crawfishing on Buchanan just like he did to the voters on his voluntary term limit pledge.
20% of the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients are non-citizens. Let the StormFront types choke on that.
Well said.
If you are fighting and putting your life on the line for this country, you should automatically be given citizenship if you so choose. They deserve citizenship!!
I'm not real keen thinking there are people in our armed services who are not citizens, even if they choose dual citizenship. Dual citizenship is fine if they love their country and America, they are paying a tremendous price. In that case, I would honor dual citizenship.
The only reason you see soo many people beating the drum for illegals in the Armed Forces is because so many Americans are relucantant to serve. This is not a good thing. An overdependence on foreigners to fill its ranks eventually did Rome in 'cause they were more loyal to their tribes than to the country they were supposedly serving. I see no reason why things would be any different now--especially if they get the idea that Americans are unwilling to defend themselves.
Many of the illegals are fleeing cultures of corruption, but that doesn't mean that they understand how to operate any differently. We must not allow our Armed Forces to become cesspools of corruption.
This could have been a wonderful thread espousing the love of illegal aliens (both of your favorite subjects!) for serving and defending this country but you have to get your jabs in on Tancredo and Buchanon. I think everyone else ran away.
You need to direct your comments to TAquinas. He brought up Tancredo. Do you realize that you are out of your league? Maybe you should practice on some of your little friends before trying to exchange ideas on an adult board.
Looking at our current recruitment numbers, I guess they really ARE doing the jobs Americans don't want to do.
Dang, beat me to it!
Equal rights in all aspects are what they want. They should also have equal responsibilities in all aspects. If a draft shall be necessary in the future, females should not be exempt. You simply can't have it both ways however it best serves you at that moment.
Many of the arguments the feminist uses to argue for women in the armed service and to allow them in combat arms units can also be applied to drafting women. Such is the case with females in Israel who also get drafted. Who can forget all the media reports about other nations allowing women in combat? Well, Israel drafts them too.

"Miss Rosenberg?""That's right. Thanks for coming. They'll be here for a while, if you'd like to come with me we can go somewhere a little quieter to talk. Want to introduce me?"
"Sorry. Major Samantha Carter, Doctor Daniel Jackson, and Murray."
"Murray?" said Willow, staring up at Teal'c. "Funny, you don't look Jewish."
Obviously not a thing but just the word immigrant is enough to send certain people into a rage.
