President Bush has chosen federal appeals court judge John G. Roberts Jr. as his nominee to the Supreme Court, a senior administration official says...
Some pro-abort ("reproductive rights") hag is on PBS right now dissing Roberts. Therefore . . . I LOVE HIM!!!
My dream-judge is Coulter. Not because she's smart, but because she has great hair! [Just kidding. I'd pick Edith Bunker if she were an originalist.]
There's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent."
John Roberts
Where did you find or hear that?
That is, until we get our hold onto Canada as well...
It would be like asking a Presidential candidate about gambling (i.e. a state's right issue)...something that isn't even bothered with in a national campaign.
Right now, it matters at the national level due to the ridiculousness of the SCOTUS back in 1973...but with Roe v Wade overturned, the pro-life battle would return to being fought at the state level, where it should have been all along.
With one caveat...no way could Rice be perceived as being capable of picking a pro-abortion SCOTUS nominee (if she wants to win).
Now, that being said...it's not going to work out like the above (I was simply answering your question directly). The *reality* is more likely that it will take two, possibly 3 Bush picks to the SCOTUS before Roe v Wade is taken up and overturned by a large vote. Remember that the 1973 RvW decision was 5-4. The vote that overturns it will be 6-3 or 7-2...making it clear that the new position will stand for a longer period of time than the initial Roe v Wade decision.
Likewise, Condi hasn't held an elected office yet...so she's really only in the running for our VP nomination (along with a very strong list, by the way). 4 to 8 years as VP and *then* she'll be Presidential material...though I must say, even with all of the above, I'd like to see her be pro-life anyway.
Me too!
"The Dems on TV don't seem too upset. This is making me very uneasy."
Hmmm... I think they're in shock.
You know that DU is headed for a train wreck when the inevitable comments turn to "Canada is looking better all the time." As they are tonight ;)
Best wishes! All we've got is town council election, probably only a few hundred voters.
Three possibilities:
1. - The MSM hasn't yet been "instructed" by Howard Dean on what to think
2. - He's like Reagan-just so damn likeable that they don't see that he's a rock-ribbed conservative
3. - We're in trouble
Dittos!!
"The real question is: What are they saying over at DU??"
Despite what you read here, even the nuts at DU don't seem too upset. All the talking Rats on TV don't think he will have a problem getting confirmed. I hope this guy isn't some retarded moderate shill.
As for DU, I had heard they crashed before Bush came on and will be down tomorrow night as well. But maybe I heard wrong. FRegards....
Basically, they are saying that this nomination is a smokescreen for "Rovegate"
Pardon me for a few minutes while I go rinse my eyes to dislodge the rest of the crap that was viewed during my brief foray into enemy territory...
When Chief Justice Rehnquist retires, the president will have the option of appointing someone directly to the Chief Justice's position or of appointing another associate justice and moving one of the current justices to the CJ spot. I won't be at all surprised if the president nominates Alberto Gonzales to the next Rehnquist vacancy but promotes Justice Thomas to the Chief Justice's position. That move would require two confirmations instead of one, but it could be a good move all around.
Bill
Uh...it was Det. Harry Callahan who said that. < wink >
Fox News . Com
Under the bar that says Roberts could go either way on Roe V. Wade
At age 50 there would be many a year ahead of him. :-)
