Well,

At least Gonzales is old news. :-D

Seriously folks, how many of you stated it was Gonzales no question without any proof? You were wrong. You dented your own credibility in reaction to an appointment that was not going to occur, so you have little room to speak to Bush's credibility.

Perhaps if you had invested your time in examining the records of people that were legitimate names in circulation, Clement was one, your time would have been better spent.

Instead of posting I have been trying to track down information on Clement. My assessment so far is that there is little flash. This is a disappointment to conservatives because they would feel more secure with an outspoken firebrand, but it does not indicate she isn't a suitable judge that would please us on the Court.

There is nothing in her record that hints at activism that I've seen. Nothing in her record that hints at concern in terms of rulings. A few tidbits that lead people to believe she's favorable to business, interesting ruling on the ability of a school district to fire a teacher. Then there is the statement she considers R v W settled law, but that in itself throws light neither way as only an activist judge would state otherwise. Whether she considers it settled law on the bench of the Supreme Court is unknown.

IMO, I think what we have here isn't a Liberal Justice. Her record doesn't indicate that. It indicates a solid Judge without any whiff of activism. The real question, imo, is whether she believes all precious precedents set by the Supreme Court are settled law or if she is amenable to overturning bad law from the High Court. That is the question we need an answer to.

Right. But saying someone is Catholic is next to meaningless, unfortunately today.

The pick is a Russian-Roulette pick.

Dude. It's always a Russian Roulette pick. I don't think changing the personalities on the SCOTUS is going to do the trick. I think the imperial court needs to be constitutionally gutted like a fish. But that's going to be a long time coming, so this is the best we've got right now.

Sounds like George W Bush is going to stab Christians and Pro-lifers in the back on this one.

If that happens not even Karl Rove will be able to motivate those four-million Christians (and then some) that stayed home in 2000.

"...this is all disinformation.."

problem is that this would require her collaboration and i don't see that happening.....i'm pretty sure that she is the choice. and i think it is a poor one.

I think she will pass the Fry Cook Test. But I agree with others on this thread that if it is going to be a woman, Judge Janice Rogers Brown would pass the Fry Cook Test, blindfolded, behind her back, and in a high wind. But Judge Brown needs to "season" on the Circuit Court before she is "ready" to move up to the Supreme Court.

Keep in mind, as I have said many times, President Bush will probably name four new Justices and a new Chief Justice before he is done.

Is Clement her married name or her maiden name?

A fellow judge in N.O. just said in an interview that Clement is unquestionably a conservative. People are forgetting that in her discussion of R v. W being settled law is that she said that from the position of a circuit court judge, so it was, at her level. (I suspect it will continue to be settled law until a huge majority of Americans are strongly against abortion--and I don't mean according to one or two of those polls we usually don't believe in.)

The more I'm hearing about her, the more I like the choice.

Yes, I believe that John Sununu did pronounce Souter as "conservative."

I think it would sound better if she had said there is a lot of precedent than that the matter was settled. Settled seems to imply that no decisions can be made about Roe.

Roe can be overturned just like the Dredd Scott decision.

Maybe W will have a reality TV show tonite....YOU PICK THE NEXT SC JUSTICE...he'll introduce his top 5 picks..they'll each give a 3 minute brief on the Kelo decision..then the audience will vote via e-mail or 800 #..which one to eliminate...

LOL! Post of the day. :)

I'm just trying to save some people from having heart attacks until someone else is home so they can call the EMTs.

It would be just MEAN to start a rumor that Ann Coulter has cancelled an appearance on Hannity and Colmes, to be in Washington... wouldn't it?

Maybe so. For the 32 years before 2000, I had a pretty good track record at predicting voters. After GWB was elected--and FR became a virtual Pubbie cheering section--I, frankly, don't know what will happen.

I'm just pretty cynical, considering the rah-rah false dichotomy rhetoric about the two party system. To tell the truth, my first vote for a third party candidate (first ever for a non-Republican) in 2004 was liberating. I recommend it.

What she said is...the COURT has determined the right to abortion. She is simply upholding a court decision ( so in other words, doing her job.)

And what is it with your inane tagline??

I agree that the communists and islamists have been exceedingly patient in getting us where we are today and we're going to have to be the same way to take the republic back. And in spite of the way I've been downing the Senate (barf) today, I might still be convinced to go with Allen. But I'm awfully grieved with the girly-boy Senate (Blaaargh) today.
