Strangely, George W Bush nominated McConnell for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals - even with McConnell opposing the Gore v Bush decisiion.

Another FReeper linked to a site with a rundown of possible nominees

http://www.jonathanbwilson.com/shortlist.html

According to this site:

"Given the other potential choices, McConnell is about as good as liberals or libertarians could expect to get as a nominee given the current configuration"

Thanks for the head's up. I've got to say that I have NEVER viewed O'Connor as a conservative. It sure is interesting that the left thinks she is. Does that tell you how wigged out they have to be to adopt that premise?

To a democrat these days, if your eyes tear up during the national anthem, you're right up there with Adolf.

The press conference with Specter is being replayed on C-span!!!

Hopefully, c-span will show all of the pressers...I am also hoping they will show the speeches in the Senate today, about the nominee...

If they do, listen closely to Warner's speeches, both the presser and the floor speech in the Senate...

Exactly---they consider her conservative mainly because of her vote in the 2000 election...

But they don't like to mention her vote for affirmative action, and for partial birth abortion, and gay rights..

I am really worried that President Bush will nominate Alberto Gonazalez, just because he thinks he will be the most "confirmable" because he is a hispanic and also supposedly he is pro-choice...

There are some that I have heard today that say that the dems won't "filibuster" per se, so they won't get that "rap", but they will pull a Bolton and Estrada...just keep asking for more and more answers and papers, until either they quit, or Bush withdraws the name...

I am also worried. As a conservative, I am very much opposed to anyone the dems think of as a centrist.

They dems wouldn't hesitate to nominate who their first choice. We fall all over ourselves trying not to offend.

Look at the circus side show the Clinton White House turned into, with the oddballs on his staff. We confirmed every idiot. Even the one that wanted masturbation to be taught in schools.

No, we need to pick a true conservative and ram them home.

What happened to Borq was unforgivable. We should never have allowed them to do that.

I could go for Janice Brown to become the new chief justice.

Hear, Hear! I think that would work out well...and challenge the Dims.

To show how important this (or any) nomination has the potential to be - in terms of longevity of serving - I realized that I was my 9-year-old son's age when O'Connor was appointed.

I was hoping for Janice Brown too, although I'd like Judge Roy Moore even better. =]

"I am also worried. As a conservative, I am very much opposed to anyone the dems think of as a centrist."

Well I'm pushing for Judge Roy Moore, Mark Levin, or Ann Coulter. Anything less, and I'm going to send an angry letter to Bush. That's right. I want a conservative. Period. No more wimpy Renquists for me.

Yeah, I know I'm dreaming. But we can get a new president in 2008. I never really expected much from Bush, myself. FRegards....

Did you read my post that said that George Allen was a guest on Hairball tonight...he was really, really good....
and he was in studio, so he was one on one with Chrissy for quite a while...

Actually, the whole show was pretty eye-opening, in the opinions of a lot of his guests...

but this nice guy has one Karl Rove right next to him who is a rock ribbed conservative.

Are we talking about the same Karl Rove who lied to and twisted the arms of real conservatives in the House of Representatives to get the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill passed? A rock ribbed conservative pushed the largest expansion of socialism since Lyndon Johnson's Great Society?!? The same ROVE who has practically single handedly turned the Republican Party into the party of Hispandring?!?

A conservative Rove is NOT!

Personally I don't think too much of people turning on Bush who has a solid Judicial record without actionable cause. But that's just me.

Personally I'm curious why Bush is the primary target, rather than the seven that have been proven to stab us in the back.

I'm also wondering about a conservative movement that holds no appreciation for a "rehnquist". I favor a Thomas, someone that will question and possibly reverse prior decisions, but Rehnquist has been solid for decades. If O'Connor and Kennedy had behaved similiarly we wouldn't have half the difficulties we do today.

Consider what job Gonzales has right now -- Attorney General. Pres Bush is not going to put someone else at DOJ to put Gonzales on the SCOTUS -- not going to happen. People on here are stirring up the Gonzales deal and it is not Republicans who support the President.

Hey defconw. :-)

Seems like just yesterday we were all in the thick of the filibuster battle doesn't it? LOL Think deWine will have learned a lesson from his son's defeat? Or Lindsey from the knowledge he WILL be challenged in '08? I certainly hope so.

"Personally I don't think too much of people turning on Bush who has a solid Judicial record without actionable cause. But that's just me."

I have my reasons. For example, maybe Bush will appoint Elton John, or Elton John's boyfriend.

"Personally I'm curious why Bush is the primary target, rather than the seven that have been proven to stab us in the back."

If Bush picks a good one, then I'd expect those seven to get allergic. I hope he's more concerned about public pressure than that idiot senate.

"I'm also wondering about a conservative movement that holds no appreciation for a "rehnquist"."

Rehnquist publicly said he's opposed to impeachment. He's not even a Constitutionalist. And that belief of his, that he knows more than the Founding Fathers, was the reason why no witnesses appeared at the Impeachment Trial, why the Clintons were able to get away with Chinagate, and why Betty Currie's brother died without a single valid report about the timing of his death AND the beating. Renhquist failed his country and allowed the senate to speak out of turn and run the show.

"I favor a Thomas, someone that will question and possibly reverse prior decisions, but Rehnquist has been solid for decades."

I agree that there are worse candidates than Rehnquist. But he should have been removed from the bench. He was supposed to PRESIDE over the trial. Not be window dressing.
