Consider what job Gonzales has right now -- Attorney General. Pres Bush is not going to put someone else at DOJ to put Gonzales on the SCOTUS -- not going to happen. People on here are stirring up the Gonzales deal and it is not Republicans who support the President.
The ones that seem to think that Gonzalez will be the pick, have a couple reasons that they all say...
The President Bush tends to reward friendship and Gonazalez has been his friend for a long time...and he left the Supreme Court of Texas to go to Washington with Bush...
The President (they say) wants to be the first to name a hispanic,
and, they think that since Gonazalez has already gone through confirmation process and been confirmed once, he would have the easiest time being confirmed...
Mostly, I think it is wishful thinking on the Media's part, because he is more liberal than the other ones that may be on the list..
Well that could be true. I didn't want to get into that myself. I don't want him, but I wasn't sure Bush would nominate him. I'll wait for the real nominee to stand up.
This and the Rhenquist replacement are going to be very important. We'll have to deal with these judges until after I'm gone.
