Some case info to go along with this map...
(as far as I know this is all correct)

http://www.arubavacationhouse.com/images/arubamap.gif

The Island is 6 to 7 miles deep by about 20 miles long

B-1 = California Lighthouse - where the boys claim they took her first after leaving the Bar.

D-3 = #4 is the location of the 2 Marriott Hotels - where the 2 brothers (and now Joran) claim they dropped Joran and Natalee off after leaving the lighthouse -  the 2 brothers claim they went home to Hooiberg after that.

D-3 = #19 is the location of the Holiday Inn where Natalee was staying.

G-5 = Where the red #2 marker is pointing to is the area that the Carlos & Charlie Bar is located

D-4 = Township of Montana is where Joran lives

F-7/8 = Hooiberg (Haystack Mountain) - The 2 Kalpoe brothers live in this area at the foot of the Haystack Mountian.

C-9 = By the Natural Bridge on the map is the location where the sharks hang out as they are fed at this location. This is the Shark Infested Feeding Area.

E-3 = Wetland in the Bird Sanctuary is the location where they found the Condoms/Condom Wrappers - Duct Tape (looked like black electrical tape to me) - Female Flowered Panties - and a String or Strap from a Bikini or Halter Top.

Tourism has increased over LAST YEAR. At this point people can't cancel their trips or they'll lose their money. I wouldn't book a trip now just because this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Oh, and because these anything goes islands are not a good place for me to be.

This was surprising to me because I had seen articles that the tourism was declining:

Aruba tourism takes a deep dive as Holloway case drags on
Powered by CDNN - CYBER DIVER News Network
by CARMEN SANCHEZ - CDNN Travel Editor

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (16 June 2005) -- Tourists returning from Aruba have told CDNN that much of the island looks like a ghost town as the investigation into the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway drags on.

According to reports from travel agents, thousands of North American and European tourists have switched to other holiday destinations that are untainted by what many are calling a botched police investigation and a deliberate cover up.

Aruba tours cancelled due to fallout from Holloway case
by Norman 'Gus' Thomas
Caribbean Net News Senior Correspondent
E-mail: rc@caribbeannetnews.com
Tuesday, June 14, 2005

ORANJESTAD, Aruba: Tourism officials in Aruba are reeling from the heavy negative publicity brought about by the disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, who had come to the island with 124 other students from the USA to celebrate their graduation from Mountain Brook High School in Alabama. . . .

Meanwhile, as officials continue their search for Holloway, they have come in for heavy criticism from many in the travel industry over the way the case in being handled.

One travel agent told Caribbean Net News, "We in the United States are extremely concerned about the way this case is being handled in Aruba," going on to add, "I know for a fact that many Americans have already cancelled plans to visit Aruba. Their fear is that, if a crime should occur, the police will handle it in an inept and incompetent fashion, as many feel this case is being handled in such a manner," . . .

In speaking to several travel agents across the USA, Caribbean Net News has been told that they are "discouraging travel to Aruba." However, a number of visitors have reportedly cancelled on their own after learning how the situation is being handled.

Brigette, again, thanks for starting this thread and providing the incredible collection of links. Not having a chance to check in over the weekend, I may be a bit behind so forgive me if my comment is redundant.

Natalee's aunt was on Fox & Friends this morning commenting on Paul Van Der Sloot. She questions why a father would not have better control over a 17 year old son's activities on a school night. (Apparently Aruban schools were open Memorial Day, the day following the disappearance.) Here is a young boy drinking in bars and out on the town until the wee hours of the morning on a school night and his parents obviously don't monitor his comings and goings. I thought the aunt made an very valid point.

Good news. Maybe now Aruba should reconsider the value of an "informative" polygraph. I'm sure Natalee's family wouldn't have a problem taking one after the boys, of course.

First night there..we're staying at a hotel out on the beach..can't remember the name..we couldn't get a rent- a car at the airport..told they were all gone..so we took a taxi...I'm somewhat gregarious on vacation, and tend to overtip those I like....was joking with the bellman who took our bags into the hotel..we had a dinner resrvation that night at the floating Indonesian restaurant in town..really neat place..wonderful food...I asked the bellman how long a ride it was..he told me, then suggested that his brother was a wonderul cab driver, and he'd be happy to arrange to have his brother pick us up at 8:30 that night..I figured that I was being scammed a bit, but always enjoy someone with a good spiel...so I readily concurred..That night, we;re dressed, come down to tthe hotel lobby at 8:25..there are are about 75 coupeles in the lobby screaming and yelling because there are NO cabs, and they all have to get to restaurants all over the island..I see MY doorman..he waves at me..calls us out to the front of the hotel..waves his arm..his brother and his taxi appear right in front..and there are 50 or so dumbstruck people looking at us like we must be royalty or something..It was station wagon, so after my wife was seated, I turned to the mob, announce where we were going said that we could take 4 more with us Two couples jumped in..turned out to be a wonderful evening...they were all really nice..and they wouldn't let me pay for either the cab both ways..because of course "MY" cab met us for the return ride..and our diner.. we spent several nights with them both that week...

I still feel that there is something bigger that this girl's disappearance points to.

So did I Miss Marple.

"...tourism has increased". Doesn't surprise me at all. Curiosity about the island, not to mention the fact that one can score drugs everywhere. That's a big draw for some folks.

" per FoxNews ; the Aruban police are suggesting that if anyone is to be administered polygraphs , it should the Nattalee's parents and family . Excuse me !? Nattalee's father ,after meeting the father of the accused , describes him as a 'slimeball' . This is the guy that is running from every reporter and saying nothing .",/I>

VERY typical to blame the victim and/or her parents.

that if anyone is to be administered polygraphs , it should the Nattalee's parents

This, plus the "can't rush in like cowboys" comment, shows the disdain for "Americans" that the Aruban Gov't holds.

They are pi**ed becasue this little mishap has cause unwelcome scrutiny of they're comfortable way of life there. These delays are all about prtoecting illegal activity and corrput Gov't officials.

Why else would they risk even the life blood of the island ; american tourist dollars.

The Dutch have a mind of their own...well, almost. Witness their recent rejection of the EU (with the French). Seems to me we have explored how this ties in with corruption and the nature of such countries to protect their own interests.

The "life blood of the island--American tourist dollars" pale in comparison with the dollars involved in illegal activities on that island. Just a guess.

I read a statement out this morning, the one where the govt speculated Nat ran away. And the next paragraph said they would solve the case soon and didn't know if it would be "beneficient" to the parents of Nat or not.

Did anyone see a veiled threat here. I think the parents are being told in so many words that to get their daughter back, they have to be mum about things. Say she ran away, anything to keep Arubas ugly underbelly from showing.

I am interested, that stuck out like a red flag to me,,anyone else?

FNC said that that tourism had not declined, but most people probably won't be inclined to book a trip there now.

Aruban authorities still aren't calling their probe a criminal investigation, and Dompig said Saturday they haven't ruled out scenarios that Holloway left on her own or was kidnapped.

"The rule of thumb would be that, as more days pass, the fear becomes greater that we're looking at a situation where we might not find a person alive anymore," he said. "We think something will happen soon. Whether it's a conclusion that's good for the family or less beneficial for the family, I don't know."

From Post 11,,this is the threat. Nat's parent may have been a short time to say "oh she runs away, all the time" and then she is produced, they leave, and Aruba chuckles at the nutty runaway teen. Am I paranoid.

I want to throw something out here and see what the FR sleuths have to say about it.

Joran had an adjoining apartment at his parents home. Let's suppose, that night, he actually took Natalee to his apartment telling her he wanted to show her his digs before she left the island.

He spiked her drink there, or gave her ecstasy. She either died from a drug overdose or a struggle.

What to do? He goes and wakes up Daddy because NOW he has a dead body on his hands. The rest is left up to anyone's imagination how they got rid of her remains.

I think Natalee died in his apartment and the father was an accomplish.
