VERY typical to blame the victim and/or her parents.
This, plus the "can't rush in like cowboys" comment, shows the disdain for "Americans" that the Aruban Gov't holds.
They are pi**ed becasue this little mishap has cause unwelcome scrutiny of they're comfortable way of life there. These delays are all about prtoecting illegal activity and corrput Gov't officials.
Why else would they risk even the life blood of the island ; american tourist dollars.

Requesting that the parents take polygraph tests would be more like SOP in an investigation in the US. One of the first steps in an investigation involving kids is to rule out the parents as suspects.
One of the things that I find a bit curious and in need of explanation is that the parents hopped a corporate jet & arrived in Aruba very soon after Natalie went missing, conducted an independent investigation &, apparently, did not contact the Aruban police until something like 10 pm.
I can certainly understand the urge to get on the scene as quickly as possible and doing some independent nosing around. What I find a bit unusual is the private jet and the delay in notifying authorities.
All of this may have been explained & I missed it. That said, explanations need verification, something a polygraph would help with.
Another question I have is what company supplied the jet & what the parents/ stepdad do for a living & is there a possible connection?
