A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Yes, FRiends, it's another Finest "Play Day"!
We should be visiting another state today, but the 'Finest Tour Bus' is in the shop for repairs (again!). So, we will be staying home and having a play day instead. For those of you who have your heart set on traveling, you are welcome to re-visit any or all of our Finest states below..... :-)
...the rest of us will stay here and
Being 8 Years Old Again
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.
- I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant.
- I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.
- I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.
- I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
- I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
- I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.
- I want to believe that anything is possible.
- I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
- I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
- I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.
So, here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, 'cause...
"Tag! You're it!"
And have a wonderful Wednesday!

Hugs to you and Mrs. D for your freepmail yesterday. I appreciate it so much. :-)

I failed it the first time! LOL! Yeah, but betcha didn't get ZERO percent, like I did. And here I thought I had done so well. What a shock to find I didn't get even one right. (Of course, it would have helped had I followed the directions. LOL.)

Do you have World War I Memorials through-out the country not necessarily a national one but one in each state or large town?
We have quite a few all over Britain commorating the local people who died in World War I here is one from Torquay
What is considered our national one is of course the Cenotaph in London

I think the solution is to behave like you're 8. That's what I do anyway.

Tried it about 4 times the highest I can score is 13% LOL Well, at least you didn't get zero! I think I shall not try it again. I will stick with my perfect goose egg score. LOL.
Happy day, or evening (I am never sure what time it is in your world), to you!

Love Wednesday play day (although my play is limited due to work!) Well, darn! At least take a few minutes to daydream. :-)
Is your Military Prayer thing new??? It's lovely! ((((Lori))))
Thank you. Yes, it is new. I have used it a couple times though. Thought it was time to make up something different. :-)
Hey, congratulations to Mr. D. on getting his pilots license. Bet he is proud of himself and he should be! So, when do you solo? Or, have you already?
I think it is absolutely fantastic that you two have taken up flying. So many of us want to do things "someday" that we never actually do....you two are DOING it! HUGS!

Yes we do have small monuments in some of the cities and towns, but there should still be a national monument just like the ones from WWII and other wars.

Hey FReezie! Long time no see.
The calendar page for today fits perfectly....as it so often does.
Yes, we can't BE eight again, but we can act like it. That brings to mind our fun trip to the National Zoo and the Melting Pot. That was almost as good as being eight again. Oh, and the tea too! That was such fun. You definitely brought out the eight year old in me! :-)

I missed your post yesterday Pip.. Put my bro on plane in PM but have been non stop for a week (actually more) & my time to read all has been limited.
BUT .. you are right .A most exellent suggestion. I have always wondered why we didn't have one. We need this type of memorial, I am supposing that the timing never seemed right (like a lot of other things). 15 years later we had the depression; then another war & another war & another.. easy to let the Older war fall between the cracks.
Did you see the movie (now out in video, I am guessing) A Very Long Engagement? set in WW1 - a love story; a war story.
I love how they have done each of the war memorials in DC so differently.. and also the various presidential memorials.. I especially like going to them at sunset of after dark. the lighting is part of the effect & you can almost feel the presence of the departed/memorialized in the stillness of the evening.

I didn't see that movie, but I'll look for the DVD.
I haven't been to the WWII memorial but looking at pictures of it makes me whant to go.
I am going to work hqrd on getting people aware of the need to have such a monument for WWI.

I wish you the same! :)

We seem to have a lack of World War II ones many of the World War I ones are thought to be second world war but if you look at them they are too old. We have recently built a memorial regarding the Battle of Britain from the second second world war near me at Folkestone unfortunately it keeps getting vandalized. I don't think by anti war or anti military people just simply local thugs or yobs that are bored.
