I have been directed to read Hal Lindsey about the choice of Cardinal Ratzinger and future prophecy.
He appears to be a commentator, but I am getting a funky vibe.
Does anyone know anything about this guy and his prophecies?
"n Matthew 24 Jesus was speaking of the generation that was alive at the time. The above verse was fullfilled in 70 AD when a Roman emporer came in and sacrificed a pig on the alter, the the temple was destroyed or as has been said, "not one stone was left upon another."
Good summary.
When most people look at the 70 weeks of Daniel (which are 70 7-year periods) they say that it all has been fulfilled except for the last "week". Then they say that the prophecy clock stopped and is waiting on Israel to return and build the Temple, etc., etc.
But there is no place in Scripture where the prophecy clock ever "stopped". This is not a Biblical concept at all and people are missing the point, that ALL the prophecies were fulfilled exactly as foretold in the Bible during the time around the fall of Jerusalem. If you look at a timeline of the 70 weeks of Daniel, the 70th week occurs exactly when foretold in the prophecies, starting 483 years after the rebuilding of the wall. The clock didn't stop, the prophecies were fulfilled, including the one which says that "this generation shall not pass away", because some of those people were still alive in 70 AD.
The book of Revelation was written in the early 60's AD, and told of events which were soon to take place, and did take place within just a few years.
All of the prohpecies, including the blood running in the streets, the Abomination of Desolation (which you referenced above), the Christians being spared because they left Jerusalem to go live the in caves outside the city while the Jewish sects inside the city destroyed each other, and then the Roman army came in to finish them off, leaving not one stone of the Temple on top of another.
But hey, it's more fun just to ignore any contrary evidence to Hal Lindsey and all the other prophets. Think I'll forget about all of this and just go back to my "Left Behind" series and think about how exciting it is to live in the "Rapture Generation".
When did the events of Zechariah 14 happen?
You may be right. |
I've always counted on Kreskin to tell me which card I'm holding against my forehead whereas, I've always depended on Criswell's uncanny and impeccable taste in coffins so when I die, I'll look good rising from the dead to predict a really bad invasion from Mars.
I have studied the prophecies of Daniel and his 70 weeks. And those were clearly fulfilled exactly as foretold. It's a fascinating study if you ever care to look into it. It will give you a new appreciation for how accurate and detailed Biblical prophecies are.
Check out American Vision (Gary Demar's website) . I don't agree with everything that Gary Demar says but he has some interesting stuff about eschatology. He wrote a book called "Last Days Madness" which has the Biblical exposition that Lindsey and the others didn't bother with.
With regard to your preterist beliefs, I have read somewhere that in Jewish thought, biblical prophecy is pattern. The idea is that one prophecy can have more than one fulfillment, with one ultimate fulfillment. An event that seemed to be a fulfillment of prophecy in 70 AD could happen again in the future.
There is no such thing as a "double-reference prophecy". There are no Biblical examples of this, and the whole idea is just something put forward to explain away the prophecies which have already been fulfilled. It's more exciting to write books about the Anti-Christ rising out of Rome and how all the intrigue and speculation surrounding that.
Most of my college Bible professors were DTS graduates. Very nice guys, but theological weaklings.
Exactly. There has always been only one true Israel. Paul was clear about that in Romans 9.
No Harry Blackwell?
"pin the tail on the Antichrist". as in "Let's play......"
A term I use for people who try to figure out who Mr 666 is. Some examples (some outrageous) that I've heard" Henry Kissinger, King Juan Carlos of Spain, a pope (of course), I laughed when I heard one radio show in 1979 speculate that Margerite Thatcher could be the one. Some of the predictions are just plain silly, and wrong in more ways than one.
I think it's Hillary. At least she's already a beast.
One thing about all of this is we are spending way too much time on speculation about the future and not enough on OUR OWN STUDY on our CHRISTIAN WALK now!
Thank you Steve. Hal's a good guy, though I don't particularly agree with everything he says.
Thanks bondserv. It important not to condemn nor highly praise Hal, as he's just doing what he feels is an important service to Christian believers, nothing more.
I kinda like to think of him as a news analyst with a Christian perspective.
OH I like that. It's a system....which all we have to do is look around and it's every where. The Anti-Christ System...Babylon System...Beast System...Man's System (which are all Anti-Christ and all the same ugly system). Didn't JESUS say there'd be many....
