What do you know about Hal Lindsey?
Hal Lindsey ^

Posted on 04/19/2005 12:51:42 PM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

I have been directed to read Hal Lindsey about the choice of Cardinal Ratzinger and future prophecy.

He appears to be a commentator, but I am getting a funky vibe.

Does anyone know anything about this guy and his prophecies?

Hillary, he is very knowledgable regarding prohecy. I've know of him since early 80's and have quite a number of his books. He's worth checking out.

He wrote "Late Great Planet Earth", which was the best selling book of the 70's. He has been wrong several times in the past but he is pretty famous because of his successful book.

I try to stay away from the faddish pursuit of end-time hand wringing. The Bible says that no one knows the day or hour of the Lord's return. That's good enough for me. I prefer to focus on today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Your funky vibe is justified. His thing is prophecy about end of the world. He is wrong OFTEN.

Like most marketers of the end times, if he gets one wrong, he can always come up with a new one. If you want bad theology, pick one of the newer guys.

It's not unfair to call Hal the "abortionist of the Jesus movement." So much passion and commitment, so much desire to make a difference in life for the glory of God, got short-circuited into apocalyptic hysteria. I was there, and know whereof I speak.

Being a fundamentalist fortune teller means never having to say you're sorry. You simply retread profitable previous prognostications, then re-label and resell them to the gullible.

(BTW -- he's on marriage #3 at the moment.)

I couldn't agree more. I believe Jesus said that no one knows the time, but the Father. I think it's best left to the Father. I think these prophecy types are either hucksters, or at best misguided. Turn on an AM radio on any weeknight and scan the dial, there are some real loons out there.

Good reads for informational knowledge. He can be a little over the top sometimes. Read and decide for yourself.

Your funky vibe is totally justified.

Hal Lindsey, while well-meaning, is a total whack-job. His batting average on so-called prophecy isn't good enough to stay in little league.

He is just famous for his book. Miss Cleo has been right more this is guy.

Lindsey is the scam artist who perfected the snake oil that has made Tim LaHaye a zillionaire.

I have heard it called "newspaper exegesis." Jack Van Impe and the lovely Rexella fall into the same category.

It is true that we should understand the times and seasons, though, and everything centers on Israel.

Hal is NOT a "prophet" but rather an interpreter of prophecies. He speciality is taking current events and correlating them to biblical prophecy. He himself makes informed guesses as to what might happen, but NEVER does he go so far as to assert "THUS SAITH THE LORD...."

Basically Hal is just watching the signs of the times. While I'm not a fan of his, I am impressed with his ability to understand prophecy and world events from a strategic perspective, and make good guesses as to where things are headed.

Also, he's a SOLID Christian conservative, in every way.

If you prophecy the end of the world long enough, you will eventually be right.........

There is also a scripture where Jesus says we will not know when He will return. It will be as a thief in the night.

And I don't believe that everything will center on Israel. This is a popular misconception.

A large portion of scripture is a description of the end times. These passages occur in both the Old and New Testaments.

New Testament writings make it quite clear that the early church was always hopefully looking forward to Christ's second coming to earth. In fact, the early church fathers delayed in writing the scriptures we know as the New Testament because they believed it would be unnecessary. This is why the Epistles are slightly older than the Gospels.

With that in mind, I think that God has given us prophetic teaching so that we could "look up" from our current toils to anticipate His arrival.

lmao- that's who I thought at first too...

FWIW, I had a dream once that Hal Linden was trying to kill me with a kitchen knife.

*Not* a credible source of theological knowledge. Many predictions [prophecies] he made did not come to pass.
