He wrote "Late Great Planet Earth", which was the best selling book of the 70's. He has been wrong several times in the past but he is pretty famous because of his successful book.

I try to stay away from the faddish pursuit of end-time hand wringing. The Bible says that no one knows the day or hour of the Lord's return. That's good enough for me. I prefer to focus on today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

I couldn't agree more. I believe Jesus said that no one knows the time, but the Father. I think it's best left to the Father. I think these prophecy types are either hucksters, or at best misguided. Turn on an AM radio on any weeknight and scan the dial, there are some real loons out there.

Not quite true ...

The lesson from the fragment you quote is that we are to not prepare, look for, be concerned about or hope for the coming of Christ. Matthew 24 speaks of the parable of the fig tree that addresses this issue ...

32) “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.

33) Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.

34)I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

35)Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

In other words, we will not know the exact time, but we should recognize the "birth pains" that lead up to this event. Birth pains was another metaphor used by Christ that characterizes the increased frequency and the severity of the events preceeding his return. I hope this helps.

That's a fairy tale - Jesus told us plenty of times that we were to "know" the times we were in.

Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets.

Matthew 13:11 - He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them [unbelievers] it is not given.

Colosians 1:26 - Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints.

Saints in the Bible refers to those who have received Jesus as their Savior.
