That's a fairy tale - Jesus told us plenty of times that we were to "know" the times we were in.
Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets.
Matthew 13:11 - He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them [unbelievers] it is not given.
Colosians 1:26 - Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints.
Saints in the Bible refers to those who have received Jesus as their Savior.
Knowing the times we are in is different than knowing the day and hour. And, it is not a fairy tale:
Mark 13:32-37
The Day and Hour Unknown
32No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33Be on guard! Be alert[f]! You do not know when that time will come. 34It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come backwhether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37What I say to you, I say to everyone: Watch!
Jesus calls us to keep watch and know the times we are in so we will not become apathetic or lazy in our faith.
That is much different with the obsession many people have with predicting the end of the world just for the sake of trying to figure out when it will occur.
