Do you want to make a change and see some justice? Congressman Tom DeLay said the House Judiciary Committee will be investigating Terri's case and making recommendations to the full house about any reforms that they believe are necessary in this debacle over Terri's life and death.
This thread is to brainstorm, and to report what contacts we have made and the results. Below is a link to the committee members.
Anyone who wants to help organize a ping list- SPEAK UP. We need someone to make a list of objectives and contacts.
This thread is for activism. If you are not interested in that - please move to a different thread. I am done with the flame wars.
This is for those who want action and want a change.
Bravo, Sir!
Wrong. Each person is unique, regardless of age, ability, race, religion, or intelligence or functional level. Each of our children is unique. We cannot and will not allow discrimination between these unique human beings.
This is the meaning of "unalienable right to life." This right not to be killed by the acts of another may not be alienated by another individual, government in any form, or the holder of the right himself.
These in/unalienable rights are endowed from creation - from the embryo to natural death. Any intentional act - such as the forbidding of food and water by natural means that Greer ordered - is an infringement of these rights.
I'm sure that the path you walked was not analogous to that of Michael and Terri Schiavo and Greer. Unless you forbade your ward sips of water, chapstick, and visits from others who loved him/her while deliberately and intentionally following a path that left no possible outcome other than death.
Forbidding hydration and nutrition by natural means is not covered in Florida law.
Terri could have refused to swallow any water placed in her mouth or ice placed on her tongue.
You cannot have it both ways: either Terri was "not there" and could not curse her body or she was "there" and would have been suffering horribly.
Which was it?
And here we have your motive: you want to legally kill persons.
Which makes you a threat to me and to everyone. Because you deny our unalienable right to life, you infringe our rights.
Your Getting way, way ahead of yourself and far too detailed far too fast.
It might take a couple election cycles to get the right kind of congress to do this. I don't think we can successfully remove any judge with our current senate. But it is good to start laying the groundwork.
FReegards....
It would be a good idea to solicit the help of Jay Sekelow and one or two other attorneys who spoke out with legal ideas on how to help Terri. It might also be a good idea to solicit Mel Gibson and Patricia Heaton as spoke's people.
Many talk radio hosts were supportive and so was fox news. If we get them on board, the MSM may pick up the publicity.
A mission statement and goals should be drawn up.
Should we just work on justice for Terri and changing laws to protect the disabled and infirmed from what happened to Terri or also include limiting judicial power (which should be done after the first two).
And at some point, there will have to be rallies.
Of course, phone calls, letters, e-mails, faxes and the like throughout the campaign for Justice for Terri.
Just some ideas. I would like to help. Thank you.
Please put me on your ping list.
Wow, GREAT post!!!!!
Jeb should never have gone back to Greer's courtroom and asked permission to intervene. A REAl stupid move on his part. Of course Greer was going to say NO and respond with a restraining order.
They aren't my workgroups. Which side are you on anyhow?
The Daily Thread is for venting too and pictures, news from Pinellas County.
A DATABASE: I think it might be a good idea to have a database or list kept confidential of all freepers on the larger/entire project.
My post about consolidation was in re: 2 threads started by two posters because you raised concerns the other day about it. I recall I was agreeing with you at that time.
The Terri Daily Threads will remain. If you want updates from that thread, "ohioanfromflorida" has a Terri ping list.
From freeper to freeper, thanks.
I'm not 100% sure I followed that. Can you restate?
Add me to you list. Here's some of the things some of us have been thinking about:
First, we need a vision statment. I had two things, I wanted to see:
1) a law passed to protect the disabled.
2) an investigation
Both of these would need to be expanded.
For instance on the first one, we need to expand it to include some of the things some of us have already identified:
a) Look at the House Bill for protecting the disabled
b) We need to look at "what is due process in the case of the disabled". As it stands now, one judge can condemn someone to die that is disabled. This is outrageous. A criminal is given a jury trial and the courts bend over backwards to protect his rights.
c) how do we get "due process" changed. For criminals this had been interpreted by the courts with actual cases, such as the right to a speedy trial, etc. Do we need an amendment to change "due process for the disabled" or can it be done in a bill? Seems like a bill would be good enough, since they can pass things like advance directives without any problem. An amensment would take a long time.
d) Talk to the consitutional attorneys that have spoken out for Terri to look at helping us pass a bill/amendment and how to make it foolproof ( or should I say Judgeproof).
e)would be nice to get Mel on Board, as spokesman.
We may want to add two more vision statements:
3) End judicial tyranny.
4) Make congress and the President take back the powers invested in them.
I guess these would have to be voted on or something. I would back all four. There may be other points we would want to add. But I think we would have a better chance of getting something accomplished if we limited what we want to do.
Thank you for gathering all this information and posting it here.
The only ones that I can't see are these:
DOCUMENTS TYING MS's LAYWERS TO THE HOSPICE
Maybe you could repost them.
This is what we are fighting. They are in coverup mode.

Rep. Delay is putting his career on the line and we need to support him!
I had two things, I wanted to see:
1) a law passed to protect the disabled.
Ok everyone, stop what your doing and call Tom Delay's office and tell him he has our full support for seeking Justice for Terri Schindler!
