Sir, thank you and all your fellow servicemen for your service and sacrifice. In many conflicts in our history, there has always been a sizeable number who either did not see or were unwilling to see the true stakes in that effort. You will be able to do something very few of us can do--tell your children that you helped change the planet. The Middle East now has the beginnings of democratic reform, which is all anyone could hope to give it. This will only improve our own security and safety in the future in a way that was inconceivable just years ago. For that you have my gratitude.
