Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, standing upper right, prepares to arrest members of the Keys family as they were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo water Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The Keys family, of Burnet, Tex., kneeling, from left, Josie, 14, Gabriel, 10, Chris, the children's father, and Cameron 12, were all taken into custody. Galen Keys, upper left, the children's mother looks on, but was not arrested. The mother insists it was the children's idea: "I am proud of them," said the boys' mother Geilen Keys from Texas, who was not arrested. "They are very mature and they said 'we want to go and offer some water to Terri'."

Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, second from left, handcuffs 14-year-old Josie Keys, left, while Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies place her father Chris in the back of a van after arresting members of the family for trespassing Wednesday morning March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The family members were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo a cup of water.

Gabriel Keys (foreground) is arrested by police officers for trespassing in Pinellas Park, Florida, March 23, 2005. The young protester attempted to take a glass of water into the Woodside Hospice for the brain-damaged Terri Schiavo. A federal judge rejected a request from the parents of Schiavo to order her feeding tube reinserted, dealing a blow to attempts by the U.S. Congress and the White House to prolong her life.

God bless those parents and their kids.

You do not use your kids to make a point. A 10 Year old kid does not know the rights and wrongs in a hotly charged issue.
They are just pawns of they overzealous and irresponsible parents trying to make a point.

Further more the Cops are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, regardless of the issue.

Following orders and enforcing the law as indicated, no more no less. Breaking the rule of Law right or wrong is not the answer.

If we follow that slippery slope we are not better than one of those South American Banana Republics.

Wanna change in the system? Vote the right people in the Congress/Senate and get Judges elected/appointed to the bench who will reflect your point of view! Period!

Even as recently as 1983 -

a 1983 article with the title "Early Management and Decision Making for the Treatment of Myelomeningocele". A medical team at Oklahoma Children's Memorial Hospital used a "quality of life" formula to decide whether to give parents of infants with spina bifida an "optimistic" or "pessimistic" prognosis. Parents given an optimistic prognosis were informed of all available treatments and urged to start them immediately. All parents so informed agreed to treatment. The parents of children given "pessimistic" prognoses were advised to forego intervention and treatment as the child would be too disabled to ever enjoy life even if they survived. Most parents, having been told this was in the best interest of their children, agreed. A very few did not. Here are the results in the authors' own words:

"The 'untreated survivor' has not been a significant problem in our experience. All 24 babies who have not been treated at all have died at an average of 37 days."

- Reference: Gross, R.H., et al. (1983). Early Management and Decision Making for the Treatment of Myelomeningocele. Pediatrics, 72 (4), 450-458.

Good Lord just tell the kids, Okay you did your best now go home. What a waste of manpower and paperwork. These cops and Chief of Police should be ashamed.

I'm sure the cops were instructed to arrest anyone who tresspasses. They were reminded of the intense media spotlight and the legal consequences for the deptartment for not following proceedures. The police commanders probably didn't consider the possibility that someone would use their children to break the law.

Did they expect to pour this untreated water into the tube directly?"

Yesterday Michael Savage was screaming the phrase "GIVE HER A DAMN CUP OF WATER," over and over. It was often followed with "you slime scumbags sputtter sputter" and then something unintelligable. Perhaps they are listeners and didn't know any better. They figured God was directing them. Fortunately God saw fit to direct them to the police.

Thousands die every year from water ingestion. People should have to have a license to carry water.

The reference to die polizei is a reference to Nazi euthanasia programs from the 1930s until the end of the Third Reich. "Useless feeders" and "life unworthy of life" ring a bell? I'm sure you can translate them into zehr gut Deutch.

Hitler wanted to "EXTERMINATE" the Jewish race period, because of a deep seated hate for the race in general.
"Euthanasia" was not known in the late 30's and 40's.

"Die Polizei" as you put it, was not involved in the process, it was the "GESTAPO" (GEheim STAats POlizei") loosely translated into "State Secret Service" which was responsible for the job, among others!

The terminally shocking thing is that even these hideous pictures will not alert millions of REAL philosophical and willful sensory brain deads idiots

how far down on the slide to hell our country has reached.

It probably won't make much difference to you, but there are people wistfully imagining the very thing Chad was referring to.

Here's an example.

The humor you find "offfensive", "tasteless", and "unnecessary" is based on something that's actually going on around here. Just FYI.

You are right.

These kinds of folks are best ignored. I have run into them before. This is not the first time they've quite eagerly slandered Christians.

That doesn't give anyone the right to denigrate Christianity like fairbanks did.

But if you support your friends doing it, whose to stop you?

Yes I read that also. Handcuffing is standard for arrests. I thought I read the mother wasn't arrested. but now I can't find it. Do you know why the mother wasn't arrested?

"You did not take civics? That means the Supreme Court lets stand the decision."

So they can make rulings on cases that have not even been filed on their court?

Oh BTW the parents of Ms. Schiavo DID file an appeal to the SCOTUS today.

So NOW if they decide not to hear it, THEN you can legitimately say that they chose to let the lower cour ruling stand.

I took civics Destro. Just never had a teacher that progressive enough to tell us the SCOTUS could rule on a case that's never been filed in their court.

"Could you please support this comment with facts? I don't think you've got them."

If you're referring to the story...search the FReeper archive. There's was a huge thread about it.

Sorry you missed it. But it DID happen.
