Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

"Generally, the person is unshackled when the jury is present or in the jury is only going to be out momentarily."

The fact that this guy was found with a shank in his shoe while entering the courtroom last week was grounds enough to put this guy in restraints and keep him there. Hopefully we'll find out why this incident wasn't dealt with in a more serious manner. It's against the law to try to smuggle weapons into a courtroom, etc. I'm wondering if he was ever charged with that crime. Probably not.

We might not fry them any more in GA, but the needle kills them just as dead.

Last week they executed a man who killed someone when robbing a Domino's in spite of the victims's family saying they wanted him punished, but not by death.

Good for you. I'm an insurance adjuster. I've worked two fatalities this week (one a 10-year old) and attended the funeral of my 49-year-old neighbor lady who died of cancer. I'm getting tired of death.

Well, they had him with a knife the day before and still took no action. Presumption of innocence is not an excuse for being dumb and putting lives in danger. The balance here was tipped too far in the defendent's direction.

1 deputy was grazed in the head.
1 deputy was shot in the chest.

One shot in chest has died.

"You should call the Raleigh PD."

I've just been in contact with them. Just waiting for the detective to return to her/his desk and return my call.

I'll ask you. What type of training do you see involved in this guys tactics? I keep seeing Jamaican/South American traits.

What I have seen done in one situaiton is to keep the defendant shackled, but in street clothes, the legs are hidden from the jury by a "modesty skirt" which goes around the table. The defendant and lawyers are instructed not to stand when the jury enters or leaves the room so as not to see the shackles.

I don't like the idea of not rising for the jury. Was the defendant shackled at the wrist as well as ankles? What kept him from resting his arms on the table?

Personally, I like the remote-control taser belt idea. Ankle irons aren't obtrusive, either, and ought to be standard. They can even be bolted down to the floor or something.

Don't be an idiot. BTW, I believe this was the judge who sentenced a woman to undergo a forced sterilization a few weeks ago so she couldn't have more kids.
