Sean knows that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Not only did he plug his own version of FR, but he promoted FreeRepublic.com as well. Rush does the same thing occasionally. I'll bet that FR's hit counter goes through the roof today and we gain quite a few new FReepers and lurkers from Hanity's backhanded plug.

That said, there is some truth in Sean's criticism of FR. As we've grown, the bomb-throwers, trolls and hair-trigger moderators have made FR a less friendly place for infrequent users and lurkers.

The shear volume of posts and the quirky navigation structure makes it a challenge for beginning FReepers to enjoy FR the way veteran FReepers take for granted.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and FR has been "faltered" by some of the bests (Drudge, Rush, Lucianne/Trixie, Mike Reagan, Savage, etc.) when they think they can do it better. Those of us that stick around despite the occasional rough edge, know that FR is in a class by itself and is unlikely to be overshadowed by any of it's "bastich" children. ;)

Sean needs to think before he speaks. There is nothing to be gained by making enemies of people who may help you more than you help them.

The need to belong often results in people wanting to say something popular and noble--like FR is comprised of nuts. In doing so, Sean imagines he is winning new friends and listeners. He is actually doing the opposite over some minor pique that really is unimportant.

Sean needs deep, analytic treatment from someone who can say to him, "...remember what thumper says, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.." This kind of advice usually comes from a perceptive mother, otherwise you need to spend big $ to hear the same but in a more complicated way.

He was trying something that a good salesman knows not to do, slamming the competition. The problem with doing that is that it makes you sound very bad unless you do it lightly. The left handed compliment usually is the best method if you want to go down that slippery slope. In this case he would of been better not mentioning Free Republic at all since he just alienated a lot of people. I chalk this up to the self promotion that he engages in without stop.

Haven't listened to Hannity in about a year. He's a pompous simpleton.

I haven't listed to Hannity much since I started working from home. I only listen to Laura Ingraham on the way home from Hebrew class at synogogue on Wednesday nights. (Both of them are on tape delay or pre-recorded here in KSFO land, too).

On the flip side, I listen to Rush more now. Jeff Katz is cool, too.

its just a listing of traffic based on who has downloaded the alexa software, which everyone considers SPYWARE.

So OK, FR outranks hannity.com among people who install spyware on their computers. Not really something to brag about.
