"I am sure God will take the pope when He is ready and not one second sooner! God bless Pope John Paul!"Thank you Sister Lucja "pass away"Thank you
I just wonder if the Pope is really running the show at the Vatican anymore ?
Wm F Buckley - buffoon - period!
I don't think Buckley's point is quite what you have taken from the article. He seems to be saying that God will decide the time of our return to Him and constant medical interventions may not be so very great after all. I tend to agree with this.
The faithful in Christ Jesus need not fear death. When a loved one suffers greatly from an incurable condition, it is mericful to pray that the Lord will take them home.
"At church on Sunday the congregation was asked to pray for the recovery of the Pope. I have abstained from doing so. I hope that he will not recover."What is this!!!!What cretin person write this!!!!
God noted that, and if the Pope dies, it's all Buckley's fault.
Looks like there's not much hope for Buckley's recovery.
"...Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done...."
The Pope should retire and let a younger more vigorous man be Pope.
I won't quarrel with Buckley because he means well, but it would be a poor example not to give the Pope the best medical treatment. It would fall in with the Culture of Death's attitude that "quality of life" is all-important and that you should pull the plug on people when they are past it.
God will determine the time of his death. If God wants to call him home, He will do it. That applies not only to the Pope as a man, but as head of the Church. Sometimes it may be best for the Church to go through a period of rest and consolidation, before getting on with the next piece of business. PJP II has done plenty, and maybe the Church needs a few more years to digest it, or even a few more years for the dissenters in the Church to grow older and weaker.
Only God understands the full meaning of His providential guidance of history. That is especially true of a pope, in whose person so many historical and religious factors converge. It's not a good idea to second-guess God.
It is God's timing, not ours.
I pray that he will soon be out of his misery. If people on this thread disagree, that's fine - we can have different opinions on the subject. It's not in our hands anyway.
Buckley doesn't hope for the Pope to die, he hopes for him to gain eternal life... quickly. Anyone who's outraged at this just isn't aware of Buckley's matter-of-fact approach to Catholic belief and his penchant for practical, unusual suggestions.
Buckley must be almost as old as the Pope is, so this column is pretty brave; one of his favorite sayings is "Who says A must say B", so this is advice he may have to take himself in the near future.
Yeah, that's a weird column, to say the least, from WFB. To pray "long live the Pope" seems natural, of course with "Thy will be done" -- but to pray for his death -- against his wishes, no less -- even with "Thy will be done" -- that's not right.

Conservatism used to equal an undeniable love for God, family, and our Republic. That was before the "neo" conservatives came, before William F. Buckley, Jr. was chosen by the liberal establishment as the chief spokesman for conservatives. From the 1960s to today, conservative Americans have been led astray by Buckley and other false conservatives who want to interject the U.S. government into almost every aspect of our lives. John F. McManus, president of The John Birch Society, presents a critical examination of Buckley's life and career, including Buckley's:
Don't let yourself be fooled! By understanding how and why the New York-Washington establishment embraced Buckley and his so-called conservatism, you can avoid the traps laid down by similar false conservatives. Get your copy today! (2002, 288pp, hb) Order Book Review

Bill Buckley's brand of Catholicism has never been an example to a real Catholic.
Bill has an ego problem which he erroneously assigns to the Pope (it's called "projection,") and Bill's ego problem extends to a certain hubris-driven attitude---that is, that Bill knows best.
I don't think so, personally.
