I don't think Buckley's point is quite what you have taken from the article. He seems to be saying that God will decide the time of our return to Him and constant medical interventions may not be so very great after all. I tend to agree with this.
yea well "not praying for someone's recovery" is hardly "Christian" much less "Catholic"
and it looks like the Pope has disappointed Buckley and anyone else that did not want him back!!!
I agree with you. You have company. We will both get slammed together.
I agree with you and I also agree with Buckley.
Our late pastor always said "Pray for a speedy recovery or a happy death". The Pope isn't going to recover so praying for a happy death is not out of line.
The Pope's death on this earth will be the beginning of his ultimate reward.
In general, I agree. There are other matters Mr. Buckley is referring to; but I think you've nailed the gist of it! :)
Buckley's subtlety has always escaped the average liberal and -- apparently --- a few Freepers.
I agree too. We don't go ANYWHERE before our time.
I read that article from top to bottom, and Buckley's not-so-veiled references to 'incapability' and his reliance on "theologians" such as Reese (SJ), editor of America magarag...
do NOT sum up to 'let the Pope go in God's time.'
Rather, they sum up to "Bill Buckley, Intellectual Giant, thinks that the Pope's time is up (regardless if the Pope continues to live, or dies this instant.)"
