"That's like saying "Lethal Weapon" was about shooting someone 10 times - but only if they REALLY REALLY NEEDS IT."

That's a good point. How many movies glamorize murder without anyone saying a word? At least MDB poses its killing as a tough moral conflict, as opposed to most Hollywood action flicks, in which killing causes the hero about as much concern as stepping on a bug!

begs Ray to pull the plug on him which he does and then Ray is tried for murder, etc..

In this film, Clint goes off to eat lemon pie.

Frankly, I've had enough death in my family in the past few years that I don't think I want to go to see a movie about euthanasia. I go to movies to be entertained and would rather laugh than cry in a movie theater.

Sounds like the "feel-good film of the year" to me!

Absolutely! I didn't read the other reviewers, but I read Medved's but didn't see the film. I still don't know which character was euthanized. It would be like saying "Rosebud" plays an important part in the ending of Citizen Kane.

I just saw the official site's Trailer and in no way does this movie EVEN HINT in it's DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING that Maggie ends up in a coma.

Or is Euthanised.

I'm going to go off topic and say how much I hated the movie sideways, please save yourself from the vulgar and trite movie.

goodness, then don't go see the movie......sometimes a movie is entertainment and not meant for much more. Sometimes the right can get too hysterical as well. Just can't see why some take this to extreme...........

so you are saying that there was no boxing in it or euthanasia threads running thru it????????wow, maybe it was just a story and a movie that was well made

It's a story that has Euthanasia in it.

That's more than Hollywood and the critics-- who generally love to tell you EVERYTHING about an upcoming movie (like spoiling every good joke or gag in a comedy)-- are willing to tell us.

Here is the text of Medved's review:
REVIEW: America get ready. It’s time for Michael Medved’s Eye on Entertainment!

Michael: I’m Michael Medved and this is Eye on Entertainment.

In “Million Dollar Baby” Hillary Swank plays an ambitious boxer who wants to recruit a new trainer.

(Audio Clip)

That crusty expert is of course Clint Eastwood who also directed this critically acclaimed film that focuses on a cluster of hard luck characters, including Morgan Freeman getting one last shot at the big time.

(Audio Clip)

And Warner Brothers never tells you the truth about a key plot twist that turns this pedestrian boxing movie into an insufferable manipulative right to die movie. With one of the characters horribly handicapped begging for assisted suicide. While the movie kills itself with lots of hooky narration. Rated PG-13 but totally unsuitable for kids. 1 1/2 Stars for the shamelessly overrated, misleadingly marketed “Million Dollar Baby.”

That’s a wrap. I’m Michael Medved for Eye on Entertainment.

Rosebud was a sled.

Darth Vader is Luke's father.

Solyent green is made out of people.

Rocky loses the first fight.

...and wins the second one.

Keyser Soze is Verbal Kent.

Bruce Willis was dead the whole movie.

I think that the dispute over the movie is just that the movie is advertised as a feel good story about boxing and it is really about euthanasia. Medved says that there are a lot of people who just don't want to see that because it would upset them and that the movie promotion is purposely deceptive. I know that I could handle it, but I also know that my daughter might not be able to.

You're absolutely right. Folks will tell you, "If you don't like it, don't watch it." I'd would have been happy to stay away, or at least keep my mouth shut afterwards, IF I simply knew it would be a tragedy.

LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME movie.

Yeah I heard the 'surpirse' and I'm DAMN GLAD I did... I would be super pissed if I went to see a 'underdog boxer' movie and got that steaming pile.

I don't get the notion that if something is 'edgy' or whateverthehell you'd call this is some kind of 'art'.

False advertising with a twist that panders to the 'critics' who fall for this CRAP.

Another movie that won rave review and that I found awful..."American Beauty".

American Beauty. The Crying Game. Mystic River. Million Dollar Baby. The Fisher King. What Dreams May Come. These and a lot more ALL come to point where the writer or director (or somebody) decides to . The critics all say, "Whoah! Powerful movie! I really can't tell you what happens in the third reel, but..." Sick of it!

"I'm going to go off topic and say how much I hated the movie sideways, please save yourself from the vulgar and trite movie."

It is for adults. I thought it was very funny. Same for my wife.

Trite can be funny. I guess we have different senses of mumor.

I walked out of "Lost in Translation."

You should probably not go to adult films, if you then intend to hate them for being "vulgar."

Excellent point.

There is something demented in Hollywierd that they would set up an audience for an uplifting film about a boxer and then pull the plug on the audience's emotions.
