Thanks--"myopic".
I call it "intentional deceit", myself.

"The panel called Mapes action a clear conflict of interest that created the appearance of political bias. The panel called Mapes action a clear conflict of interest that showed her absolute political bias.
There - Now it's correct.

The producer of the piece, Mary Mapes, was also faulted for calling a Joe Lockhart, a senior official in the John Kerry campaign, prior to the airing of the piece, and offering to put him in touch with Burkett. The panel called Mapes action a clear conflict of interest that created the appearance of political bias. You think?
I am outraged that the report did not call the forged documents outright fakes. Ridiculous.
To: 1Old Pro
the Panel cannot conclude that a political agenda at 60 Minutes Wednesday drove either the timing of the airing of the segment or its content.
yeah right. Gov. Thornburgh is obviously a Rhino.

Four employees being fired. The documents are forgeries. Is Rather included? < /rhetorical question>

Why didn't they shove Dan Rather out of the door in his underwear?

Was it always intended to be released on 1/10? If not, I am amazed that it was released on a Monday and that a Friday evening dump did not occur...

Mapes is NO scapegoat. She has a history as a leftist journalist going WAY back. While they should have fired Dan the Pseudo Man, she had been trying to do this story for FIVE years- like before the 2000 election. SHE hooked up Burkett with Lockhart. She went into journalism with an Agenda.Like most lefties, she wouldn't fall on her sword when she was caught, so she had to be pushed. Good riddance. She can start a lounge act with that whacko who did the nerve gas story about 'Nam- and who also had to be carried out screaming.

! What about Rather? Mapes is the scapegoat. Like the Romans of old, Rather was offered the option of suicide, and he took it.
As for Mapes, she is guilty as hell and deserves to be fired. She, not Rather, did all the legwork for the story.

Wrong. It was her show, she was the producer.
Her name is prominently display during broadcast. She "worked" on this "story" for 5 years. It was she who released the prison photos. She has had a personal vendetta against Bush from day 1. She is no innocent lamb.
