Dear Blue,
I had two daughters join the military in '99. One AF, one Marines. The Marine's have a 13 week boot camp ending in the Crucible. They live, eat, sleep, and hump with their M-16's. My Marine daughter is now a full time mom. My Air Force daughter spent 6 weeks at basic and got to shoot one, that is ONE, round from an M-16. AF basic is cake. My AF daughter is now a linguist. She spent a year in Monterey, CA and several weeks in San Angelo,TX. She loves her job. I hope you get what you want and have a good time with it.

A fair number of our linguists serve on RC-135 recce aircraft, another great assignment.

Unless you aren't a goat! ;) The RC-135 (and by extension AWACS and JSTARS) is a curse thrust upon aircrew.

All pilots have been called bus drivers - but in this case, there really are children in the back. And supposedly they are important to the mission.

If rated officers were to worship a god outside themselves, they would pray for deliverance from 'Wackers, JSTARS and the RC-135.

I got fat and lazy in basic training. All them city folk slow things down, and sleep all kinds of late hours.

On the other hand, I didn't know my Momma was a bad cook, until I tuckered into all that fine government chow. Gained 10 pounds, I did.

I do hope you realize you are one of the few that puts strangers'wellbeing in front of your own. I know you are probably modest as most heroes are but understand this, you are what others should emulate and know that all of our respect, love, and blessings go with you.

Blue, may God bless and keep you safe from harm. Thank you, and all our military folks, for your service to our Country.

We live free because of people like you, Blue!

Take good care of yourself,
Jim

PS: Waaay back in 1961, I joined the USAF, too. Got out in 1965. Back then, boot camp was at Lackland AFB in Texas...don't have any idea if its still conducted there, or not.

Godspeed... and please post when you can and let us all know how you are doing.

It's been a long time since my basic at Lackland. The bus pulled sometime at night, and a two-striper got on the bus and welcomed us to the United States Air Force on behalf of President Eisenhower and Secretary of Defense Wilson. They handed out dogtags and then the fun began. I ended up going to tech school at Goodfellow and on to Clark AB and a small base in southern Italy. Got a good career out of it, and memories, both good and bad, too numerous to count. And it all started off with that bus ride from the San Antonio train station to Lackland. Godspeed, bud!

Good Luck!!

Remember, you are part of a team now.

TEAM= Together Everyone Achieves More
(they made us recite this over and over at Sea Cadet bootcamp)

You and your shipmates will pull each other through this, together. (Except, they won't be shipmates because it ain't the Navy. Planemates? Airmates? Oh well, you get the general idea.)

And supposedly they are important to the mission.

They are the mission. Otherwise you are just flying in circles wasting gas. The problem is that you guys up front aren't cleared for what is going on in the back so you think the worst.
