Freeper Canteen: Welcome Home and Thank you Vietnam Vets! 05 Nov. 2004

For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday... Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed ForcesLooking forward to tomorrow's freedom? Support The United States Armed Forces Today!
CAMP RUN-A-MUCK
So much has been said and written about our Vietnam Veterans and our military men and women over the past few days. The message out there is loud and clear: Americans support our troops! In my opinion the election we won this week for George Bush is indeed a message to our troops; that we trust you, and to our Vietnam Veterans; that we love you and want to make things right again. And to both groups; We do believe in you as much as you believe in us. Still I feel as though there is one thing missing- a proper THANK YOU for all your sacrifices. I have heard many stories in the past few days that active duty troops would like to see their brothers and sisters from Vietnam finally get the respect which has always been due them. With that in mind, this thread is dedicated to our troops, both home and away , for our Vietnam vets and for all of their loved ones. Most of us are sorry it took so long to get our message to you- please know many of us have held this message in our hearts for a very long time:
THANK YOU AND WELCOME HOME!
FEILD TRIP HERE!
Those Americans who went to Vietnam fought for freedom, a truly noble cause. You and your comrades-in-arms who faced danger and death in Vietnam fought as well as any Americans in our nation's history.
Vietnam was not so much a war as it was one long battle in an ongoing war -the war in defense of freedom, which is still under assault. This battle was lost not by those brave American and South Vietnamese troops who were waging it but by political misjudgments and strategic failure at the highest levels of government. The tragedy- indeed, the immorality-of those years was that for the first time in our history our country and its government failed to match the heroic sacrifice of our men in the field. This must never happen again. ~Ronald Reagan~
To all those who have worn the uniform of the United States of America I say to you: You are America.

Just running through to say HAPPY FRIDAY CANTEEN!
So many things to celebrate today. If I am not mistaken, it is the Marine Corps' birthday. WooHoo! Not that I am playing favorites, but I love my Marines. They are good neighbors.
I've also heard that President and Mrs. Bush are celebrating their wedding anniversary today. Congratulations!
To the US Armed Forces and Allied troops preparing to clean up Mr. Z's neighborhood: I pray for your safety and success of mission.
P.S. Tonkin it was good to see the "Soup Report" again last night!

US Marines of the 1st Division carry mattresses as they move into a base outside Fallujah, Iraq, Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004. Iraq's interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said on Wednesday that whatever the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections will be, his country will remain a friend to the United States and appreciate its support.
Gee, when the Sarge said that we would soon be going to the mattresses" I thought he was talking about getting some R&R!
Back home when I was a kid, my parents always taught me to never play with mattresses!
A photograph dated November 4, 2004 shows an English translation of the Arabic leaflet, printed by the British Army, being handed out to the local people by the Black Watch battle-group as part of their 'hearts and minds' campaign during their stay at Camp Dogwood, 20 miles southwest of Baghdad.
A US Marine of the 1st Division adjusts a chain with a cross around his neck after receiving mail from home at a base outside Fallujah, Iraq, Friday, Nov. 5 , 2004.
Soldiers of the New Iraqi Army show a photograph of Ali Sistani to U.S. Marine Styves Exantus (L) during training at a base near the city of Falluja in western Iraq November 5, 2004. Forty-nine of their comrades were massacred last month and they suffered casualties on the trip to Falluja, but new Iraqi Army troops are primed for an offensive on the rebel stronghold.

Hiya Spotsy. I'm surprised I haven't seen a mention of the Marine Corps birthday before this. I'm also partial to the Marines. Of course, I am biased since my son is a former Marine. 8->
