A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....11-01-04....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Good afternoon to all the Finest on this day before Election Day.

Our troops are placing their lives on the line so that we may have the privilege of voting for the President, or his opponent (who has been endorsed by Al Queda and the French).

May the Good Lord bless all our men and women who serve, in and out of uniform ... may He bless our Commander-In-Chief ... and, may He curse and smite their enemies, domestic and foreign.

Heavenly Father, we have so much to pray for these days. We lift our fervent prayers to You, asking for a decisive win for President Bush tomorrow and for keeping our troops safe every day. In our hearts we know that one favor is deeply connected to the other. We also have every faith that You will watch over, protect and guide us, Your servants, and especially our troops, no matter what the outcome of tomorrow's vote may be. Please also bless the families of the troops who give themselves so selflessly to protect our freedoms.

Please grant the favors for which we ask. We promise to continue to lift our hearts and prayers to You each day for all of eternity in joyous thanks when we realize the fruits of our prayers. We ask these favors as Your humble and contrite servants in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Busy morning for me today. Thank goodness my biggest task tomorrow is voting.

AFTER-ACTION REPORT: SOLO FREEP OF DEMOCRAT RALLY IN W.VA.

West Virginia Democrats held a widely publicized Kerry rally this morning at the HQ of the Independent Steelworkers Union in Weirton. Scheduled to speak were Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (the stupidest man in the Senate, not to be confused with the stupidest man in the House, Patrick Kennedy), Ted Kennedy, former Gov. Caperton (looking for young boys but finding only old steelworkers), Rep. Alan B. Mollohan (glad Patches is secure in first place, just ahead of him) and others. Press releases indicated the rally would start at 9:30 a.m.

I had made a sign reading, "John Kerry is Bin Laden's man; Bush is mine," but then decided to make a more positive and steel-oriented poster, so on the other side of the Bin Laden sign I wrote, "Bush is PRO- steel, -coal, -life, -2nd Amendment, -freedom!" I also had a Bush/Cheney placard.

Parking a couple of blocks away from the ISU hall, I meandered over at around 9:15 a.m. Chairs were set up outside, but only a handful of people were milling around. I approached a police car and asked the officers if I could protest across the street. I said this was not an organized protest, and I'd probably be the only Bush supporter. The cop said, "They don't seem very organized here," nodding toward the ISU hall. I refrained from replying, "That's because they're Democrats." He said, "You can stand wherever you want," and I thanked him kindly.

The first reaction I got from anyone was a motorist who slowed and told me, "I'm a Bush supporter too!" The second was a woman who walked over from the union hall and asked, "Why aren't you at Burgettstown?" (in nearby Pa., where the president was appearing this a.m.). I replied that it's a long drive, and I'd already seen the president several times this year.

Another woman retrieved from a van covered with bumper stickers (Catholics for Kerry, No Bush No Dick, etc.) some flyers and offered me one. She said it explained how Kerry's bishop had said we could vote for Kerry in good conscience. I said I'm not Catholic, and will vote for Mr. Bush in good conscience, but thanks for the information.

All the while, I displayed the "Bush is Pro-steel, etc." sign and the Bush/Cheney placard, but one fellow noticed there was something written on the back and asked to see it. He asked, "Do you really believe that?" and I replied, "Kerry is the only candidate Bin Laden has endorsed." He said he was a retired steelworker, and I commented that Kerry already had promised not to lift a finger to help steel, i.e., impose tariffs, the way Bush did, which gave the steelmakers breathing room to get back on their feet after nearly dying during the Clinton years.

Another motorist passed and gave me a thumbs up.

A local sheriff pulled up in his official vehicle. He's not running for reelection, but is running for another county seat. A fellow running for his vacated position was with him (he's not currently a deputy, but a civilian). I wondered if it was okay to campaign in a county vehicle, but didn't say anything to him, although I'm sure he recognized me.

One of the steelworkers came over to me and was very friendly, talking about how wonderful a system we have where we can express our views, blahblahblah.

Just then, Rockefeller drove up - in a brand new top-of-the-line Toyota SUV! "Hmmm, a foreign car," I said to Mr. Smarmy Steelworker. "What's wrong with that?" he said, "Children of all countries and all colors need to be fed, too," he added.

It was a "grab the duct tape" moment, and I know I was looking at him like he had three heads. What in the world was he talking about? All I could think of to say was, "Well, I drive an American car - a Ford, made in Kansas City by union workers" (hoping mightily that same vehicle was not being vandalized at that very moment).

Rockefeller saw my signs, incidentally, inasmuch as he passed not eight feet from me, and tried to pretend he hadn't.

About this time, a couple of especially shrill female Kerry supporters hoisted a huge sign reading, "1100 killed, 8000 wounded, and for what?" and aimed it in my direction. Hmmm, I thought to myself, how about freedom, national security and ending a genocidal dictatorship?

Then they started chanting, "Read it and weep." Good grief, I weep for your utter stupidity, ladies. Having failed to draw a response from me, they started with "Like father, like son," and "Teflon George." I honestly tried to ignore them, but it was hard not to shake my head in amazement. Another motorist stopped and told me she was a Bush supporter, adding, "Good for you!"

By this time, it was after 10 a.m. and the rally had yet to begin. Someone announced that all the speakers were there, and that they'd get started in 5 or 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, I decided I had too many other things to do today and, besides, all 75 - yes, a whopping 75 in attendance, I counted - already had seen my signs. So I walked away, the harpies cheered. I turned, gave them the three-finger "W" and shouted, "Four more years!"

So, even though I didn't hear the same old lying nonsense spewing from the mouths of the Dem politicos, I was glad I went.

I only said it in case kerry and fiends manage to steal a few votes.

Well, you can bank on THAT! And it will be more than a few. In a fair and square election, I have no doubt that Bush would win by a large margin.

Hang tight, darlin'. : )

I'm trying! But it just breaks my heart to think that our military might have to serve under that traitor. I think that is what is concerning me the most.
