Statement from the General President Regarding the Events in Huntington, WV
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades believes in the fundamental right for civil discourse, freedom of speech and activism to support our candidates and issues. What happened in Huntington, West Virginia yesterday is an affront to everything we, as a union, pride ourselves to represent. We extend our apologies to the Parlock family, especially Sophia, for the distress one of our overzealous members caused them.
I have personally taken steps to address this issue internally, and will take immediate disciplinary action to the full extent allowed under U.S. Department of Labor regulations and the constitution of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
It is my hope that this incident reminds all of our members that every last citizen in this country has the right to express his or herself freely. Not one single one of us has the right to tell them otherwise.

Forgive me for not being all-knowing, but *what* exactly does the International Union of Painters have to do with American workers and politics??

Never hurts to be optimistic.
Kerry is optimistic enough to think he can be President.

The DumbAsses believe that this was all staged and the goon was Purlock's son.
They also have no mention of the latest CNN poll.
What idiots no wonder they are going to get creamed.

Phil Parlock did NOT stage this story! At least not to the extent some are speculating.
At the same time, I feel conned. When I saw the photo yesterday, my blood boiled. I was prepared to belive Parlock was Joe Citizen, naively exercising his right to peaceably demonstrate in a public place. Now, it appears he's a veteran of counter-demos, has been knocked down in the past, and involved in other altercations. That means he should have known not to bring a three-year old, and it appears she has been put in harm's way as a prop. Sure, nobody should have to deal with aggressive dogs, either, but if you dangle your three-year old in front of a pit bull, you bear some responsibility for the consequences.
This does not excuse the union thugs who did what they did. But I'm not prepared to exonerate Phil Parlock.

I agree that this means nothing. If I was head of this union and I had thousands of angry Republicans sending me e-mails, I would do the same thing. This doesn't mean that that Parlock didn't instigate the confrontation. Not that it's not scummy to pull the sign out of a 3-yr old's hands. Who is worse, the punk who did it or the Dad who put his child in harm or verbal abuse by seeking attention?

Not bad for a half @ssed apology, but I want to see the thug in this picture out in front of the camera saying he is sorry for violating this family right to assembly, taking away their freedom of speech, and freedom of political expression

Wow. A mature adult in charge of speaking for a union. He's a rare breed. Send that man a cookie, and let's hope for many more like him.

The DU's drink from the teet of the eternal conspiracy.
This dad and his family add their political voice by protesting at oppenents rallies. Big deal. This is hardly a new thing since left wing nuts do it all the time. Frankly, I wish conservatives would do it more. I wouldn't take my kids to something like this though, especially not the small one's.
