Kerry Supporters: "Laura Bush was Drug Dealer, George W. Bush was Cokehead"
Ben Barnes, Kitty Kelly | 9-8-04 | TitansAFC

Posted on 09/08/2004 10:11:52 AM PDT by TitansAFC

The John F. Kerry for President campaign and Kerry supporters took aim at First Lady Laura Bush today, claiming in a new book by Kitty Kelly that Laura Bush both sold and smoked marijuana during her days at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. This explosive new allegation signals a new strategy by Kerry supporters to target not only President Bush with charges of drug use in his past, but the First Lady as well.

A newly coordinated strategy by the The Kerry camp will begin this week with week-long media appearances by Kitty Kelly (author of "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty," which makes these shocking charges) and Kerry Campaign Vice-Chairman and former Democratic Leiutenant Governor of Texas Ben Barnes. Barnes will charge that he used his influence as Speaker of the Texas House to uncharacteristically get known political opponent and long-time Republican George H.W. Bush's son a job with the Texas National Guard in order to avoid serving in Vietnam.

Another phase of the Kerry strategy involves a relatively new pro-Kerry 527 group called "Texans for Truth" which plans to launch an ad this week in which a lieutenant colonel in the Alabama Air National Guard questions Bush's absence from his National Guard service in Montgomery, Ala. The group says it plans to spend about $100,000 to run the ad.

The ad asks "Was George W. Bush AWOL in Alabama?" and implores: "Tell us whom you served with Mr. President."

This new and well-coordinate Democratic effort to resurrect charges made several times in the past four years signals a U-turn in the Kerry campaign, going back to charges made during the Democratic Convention by DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe that President Bush was "AWOL" during his Texas Guard service, an allegedly treasonous act. Criticized by fellow Democrats for not being harsh enough, Kerry supporters have unloaded these allegations this week against First Lady Laura Bush and the President in the hopes of damaging the personal credibility of the First Couple.

Charges of prior drug abuse by Laura and George Bush, as well as allegations of treason against the President, will dominate the Democratic talking-points this week with the intent of showing that the Kerry camp is getting serious about going on the offensive in this campaign.

I thought B.J. Clinton had finally persuaded Lurch to knock off the crap about Vietnam era service. So, he's starting it up again? And going after Laura Bush to boot?

The Clintons don't have to do a thing to sabotage Lurch's campaign. What a loser.

John Kerry: "Where do I stand on the issues? How will I fight the war on terror? Why do I want to raise your taxes? Uh, um, uh, Laura Bush smoked pot! Did I mention that I fought in Vietnam?"

Those Reagan Democrats will recall the name Kitty Kelley very clearly when this book comes out.

Excellent observation. More and more, this is looking EXACTLY like the 1984 election.

I encourage John Kerry to take the lead in these attacks on Laura Bush. Be a man, John! Take credit for your party's actions. Americans need to know if their First Lady is a dope fiend.

Does anybody think that Terry Ketchup and Lurch's sh*t doesn't stink??

I hate the Left. This thing is getting so nasty. Neil Bush is an idiot for setting off his shrew of an ex-wife.

This is how sloppy the book is.
Barbara Bush said "she is a name that rhymed with 'witch'", not that she IS a witch.

sheesh!

Remember, Kitty-litter said that Nancy was a serial adulterer who had an afaire with Frank Sinatra in the Whitehouse....among other vicious lies. It this chump is the Dems secret weapon...they are totally screwed.

The key will be knowing when to stop the cycle... At some point, we gotta leave Kerry's cheese out in the wind and just hammer home the substance. Right now we have the moral high ground. We don't want the public to start thinking this is just a pissing match. For every attack on Bush, we should have a comprehensive response and refrain from retaliating. Kerry's character has been exposed. Now it's time to pulverize his pitiful political record. There's lots of blood in that body of water, too...

Where's that recent picture of Kerry pretending to smoke a doob?

It was quite Presidential of him to hang out with Peter Paul and Mary.

So this is Kerry's new "take-the-gloves-off" strategy? I believe we are seeing "meltdown" here, big time. At this point, I would be surprised if Kerry pulls more than 35% of the vote.

There are truly no restraints on the depths to which the Democrats will sink. They are a cancer in the body politic. I don't simply want to see them defeated this year; I want to see them destroyed, and never to rise again.

Actually no... This is what a real SMEAR campaign looks like. These guys are out to do whatever it takes and the press will carry their water... No one will seriously challenge them or ask for verification... We will now see a true battle.

It will not work as well as it once did however, the Internet is now a major information distribution system and the truth will get out... see the write ups on Ben Barnes that are pretty much already discrediting anything he might say tonight before it is even aired...

The Presidential campaign is fast becoming network-centric.

“...claiming in a new book by Kitty Kelly that Laura Bush both sold and smoked marijuana during her days at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.”

As a survivor (Through no intelligence of my own!) of the Just Say Yes Generation, this truly is laughable! And, since when do democrats care about drug use? Do they think this will sway Republicans? LOL!

“...showing that the Kerry camp is getting serious about going on the offensive in this campaign.”

Hah! And they have not been serious so far???

You're misunderstanding what I am saying; this weekend there was an article with supposed "facts" from the book.

It said Barbara Bush IS a witch, as in practicing.

This is so laughable!!

Exactly. Let them talk. Put them on 60 Minutes. LOL! They are campaigning for our side.

Bush should just say with humility and grace, "In America, we all have a right to speak. Some people will abuse that right with dishonesty, and the rest of us can stand up and correct them, or when the charges are extremely far-fetched, ignore them. The First Amendment is a beautiful thing. It belongs to all of us, and we build our reputations around how we use it."

Well..something better than that but you get the idea.

The more outrageous the accusations, the less likely they are to be believed. If this is the best Team Kerry's got, they'd better just throw in the towel.

Laura Bush is extremely well liked so this will not help at all, which is in keeping with the Kerry campaigns death wish. From a recent LA Times poll.
