Interesting email exchange from a good friend. He is having trouble getting Unfit for Command from Barnes and Noble.
My email:
It is very disturbing that the Kerry people (and Kerry himself) are suing to silence dissenting political speech. . .the very speech the First Amendment was designed to protect. ("This is how Kerry reacts under the pressure of attack -- by trying to take away his opponents' freedom.") Clearly, Kerry thinks only speech that supports him is to be free and speech that is critical of him is not. Imagine the hoopla if Bush jokingly suggested shutting down Moore's movie, let alone filed a lawsuit. Yet the left (and their biased media) give John-boy a pass. . .after all, we must beat Bush at any cost---to include losing our rights.
His reply:
Yes, this is disturbing and frustrating. I entered into a somewhat heated discussion with Barnes and Noble in Melbourne. Actually we drew a crowd of onlookers. It was worth it. The guy claimed they did not stock it. I asked why, he said it was B&N policy to not stock such material. Spoke with the Manager. She was apologetic but reiterated that it was B&N policy. I of course protested and left. I am leaving now to return to B&N to see if they changed their policy after my temper tantrum.
Then of course they dont stock anything by Moore, and all the Bush hating books.
Bn.com stocks the book and actually has it available unlike Amazon. Our local B&N has a waiting list for the reprint; said they would call me next week when it comes in.
Must be a "local" policy for BN.
ITS TIME TO ASK THEM IF THEY OFTEN DONT STOCK A BOOK ON THE NY TIMES BESTSELLER LIST!
I got an email from Borders customer support after I tried to make an online reservation. They said that the book was in its 7th reprinting already and that they had a very hard time keeping it on the shelves, they were doing their very best.
I went to the local bookstore to see if it was in stock--no go. They said that the demand was very high.
This is in Liberalsville.
Uh, Amazon has had the book on their site for at least 2 weeks, if not longer. I ordered from them about 10 days ago and received my copy in good time.
I think this is NOT ture.
I called my local B&N store here in metrowest Boston, and was told they are all out. I asked the manager when they would be getting more. She said that they would love to sell them, but no copies are available anywhere and that more are on order from the publisher.
I then called Regnery Publishing to see if this is true. Regnery confirmed that they have been out of stock, tha more are being printed, and that they are only now starting to ship again.
Good one!!
Ture = true.
I just had a nice phone conversation with a young lady at Borders. She said that they were sold out of 'Unfit' and this was because the publisher grossly underestimated demand for the book and simply did not print enough. The publisher is currently at work furiously printing as many copies as possible but even when the next shipment goes out this particular Borders store expects to get only a handful (the young lady estimated 7 copies) since there are so many other stores that the publisher needs to distribute to. The young lady was very nice, and IMO sincere.
She offered to put my name on a "reserved" list.
I don't know about anybody else, but I am loving this.
The Kerry people and the scumbag rats have got to be gnashing their freakin' teeth.
Same here at our local bookstore. Not Barnes and Noble. They said they couldn't get the book and that its the publishers not being able to get enough books out because of high demand.
Did you get some sort of purchase confirmation?? Just let Amazon know and they will probably send out another one. I have found them to be very good about things like this over the past few years.
Businesses are allowed to sell whatever they want to sell-- or not sell. That's what makes this a free country. We have the right to do business, or not, with folks that don't want to sell books that speak the truth.
I have called many bookstores in the KC area and can't get a copy of the book anywhere. They all say the same thing, that they are sold out.
Saw a posting saying it's in its seventh printing and 350,000 copies to come this next week.
