A U.S. law prohibits citizens from negotiating with foreign governments on matters such as peace treaties.

There must be a provision that excludes anyone who was in Cambodia on orders from President Richard Nixon on Christmas 1968. And his little dog, too!

Here is somnething that goes along with Kerry committing treason. I posted this a couple of days ago.

I haven't been here long enough to know if it is a FReeper thread or not. And I haven't looked. But the information is out all over the place. It was when he was with the VVAW, they had a meeting somewhere out in the mid west. The VVAW moved the meetings several times to avoid the FBI before actually having the meetings. The meetings went on for a couple of days.

Kerry or a spokesman said he was not present at the meetings, but witnesses place him there and there may be other information that link him to it. For instance the FBI files that the reporter gave to the Kerry campaign that he had gotten through the FOIA, or other records.

Anyway, the topic of the meetings was a plan to assassinate 9 US Senators during an anti-war rally in DC. The plan was for members of the VVAW to go to the Senators offices and meet with them and shot them. The plan was voted down.
However, if Kerry was present than that in itself is probably against the law. Conspiracy to assassinate an elected US Senator is against the law, just talking about it and working on a plan and voting on it is illegal. Not a lawyer, but I would guess that it is treason, we were at war.

O'Grady said he was referring to Kerry's 1971 appearance before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In response to a question about how he proposed to end the war, Kerry mentioned that he was involved in peace talks in Paris.

"I have talked with both delegations at the peace talks, that is to say the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Provisional Revolutionary Government," Kerry told the panel, according to a transcript.

A U.S. law prohibits citizens from negotiating with foreign governments on matters such as peace treaties.

Earlier this year, Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan told the Boston Globe that Kerry had "no role whatsoever in the Paris peace talks or negotiations." Meehan said Kerry had gone to Paris on a private trip and had one brief meeting with Madam Nguyen Thi Binh and others.

More Congressional testimony coming back to bite the Senator from Massachusetts in the posterior.

IIRC, that law was passed in the 1790s and has never been enforced. It's a dead letter and even if it weren't, violating it still wouldn't be treason, or even 'treason'.

Freepers need to respect the meaning of words; the Mad Hatter approach to vocabulary has traditionally been the province of the Left.

I think its great that Scott O'Grady survived his ordeal in Bosnia, but I am not sure why people call him a war hero. He applied his AF training to successfully avoid capture--while this is commendable, I don't see how it rises to heroic proportions. The circumstances under which he lost his plane are murky at best (he may have had his Radar Warning Receiver turned off). What are his qualifications for office, other than he was rescued and wrote a book? Since the incident, his life has centered around milking the experience for all its worth (kind of like Kerry with his Swiftboat duty).
