One of our active members in the Illinois chapter, Unspun, has created an e-petition calling on Republican leaders on both the state and national level to immediately fully fund and support the U.S. Senate campaign of Dr. Alan L. Keyes.
I'm posting this on FR because all freepers across America are welcomed and encouraged to sign. And after you do, please forward it to others you know:
A re-elected President George W. Bush and our nation NEED Alan Keyes to assume Peter Fitzgerald's Senate seat. Fitzgerald was elected running as unapologetic conservative and that's exactly what Keyes is doing. Alan Keyes CAN win this election but only through the national efforts of conservatives everywhere. He is jumping into the race during the time of crisis when the Democrats are way ahead on fundraising.
It is especially important for Ambassador Keyes' wonderful voice of insightful American statesmanship and conscience to be heard in the Senate, instead of the liberal extremity represented by Barack Obama's Illinois State Senate votes.
This petition simply calls for Republican leaders to unite, to:
1. Introduce Alan Keyes to the campaign contributors they know.
2. Encourage the volunteers they know, to work for Dr. Keyes.
3. Strongly endorse Alan Keyes and work with his campaign
The time is short in this unique and historic campaign. The eyes of the nation are upon it. Alan Keyes' message must get to all the voters of Illinois.

I don't disagree with anything you stated.
I've seen this on several threads. It really isn't worth it.
Gee more insults from the guy accusing others of troll-lie behavior, anybody suprised.... didn't think so.
Still can't handle the fact that Keyes himself, even in his acceptance speech, said carpetbagging is wrong huh? Try dealing with the facts. The facts are that Keyes sold out, and worst still he sold out for nothing: he's going to lose, The Ill GOP will lose this opportunity to move one of their own up in visibility, the national GOP will lose a piece of ammo to use against a possible presidential run by Hillary, and Obama will still get to campaign for other candidates around the nation. Keyes should at least have waited to sell out for a race he might actually win, by selling out for this race he's not only stopped being a man of principles, he's stopped being a man of forsight and intelligence too. A sad day all around.

I’m sure Alan Keyes is considered an unelectable extremist nutjob by the RINO infested California “Republican” voters (what did he get there, like 3% of your primary vote?) Of course, just about anyone to the right of Governor Red Doofus is considered an far right-wing NAZI in California.
Over here in Illinois where we pick actual REPUBLICANS in our primaries, Keyes’ platform is more in line with another “unelectable” conservative:

So far unspun's "piece" consists of nothing more that accusing people who disagree with him of "troll-like behavior". The closest he's come to presenting any facts was the link to Keyes' acceptance speech, where Keyes himself says that carpetbagging is wrong but he's gonna do it anyway.

The Illinois Republican Party should have supported Fitzgerald for another term, but they forced him out because he wouldn't 'play ball'.

I once suggested that if Keyes is serious, he could move into a safe Republican district (Tennessee's first) and get himself elected.

It is a waste.
I do no justice to his words, nor the way he wove several ideas together. He is the Republican candidate in IL, and to not support him is the same as supporting Obama.
Debating this back and forth will not change anyone's mind, especially those who do not live and vote in IL.
This may bring out people (the religious right) who wouldn't vote in the election, and they will in turn vote for Bush. Will it matter? Not with the electoral college, but it will help the popular vote, and this is one less thing for the Left to rag about.
In addition, this will make Obama spend more time and money in IL rather than helping Kerry.
As an IL resident, I see little to argue about. We had 15 FReepers attend the rally, which was great. The GOP has gained a new activist in the local organization because of Keyes, which is a win for the state GOP.
If there's a strong turn-out, perhaps the RINO hold will lessen. If not, then... we're still in the same leaky boat.

Sorry I've never bought into that all or nothing balderdash. Not supporting an illegitimate candidate who shouldn't even be running in the first place is not the same thing as supporting his opposition. It's encouraging him to reverse his mistake and campaign for a legitimate candidate.
This may cause people that respect why the founders put a residency clause in the Constitution to stay home who would have voted in the election, and they will in turn not vote for Bush. Will it matter? Maybe.
And since Keyes is gonna get cremated I really don't see this keeping Obama at home. He can travel around campaigning for Kerry and other Dem Senators and all it shows is that when elected, if the people he campaigns for are also elected, he'll be a very well connected junior Senator that already has a powerful coalition and will be able to get things done for Illinois.

You quoted his first paragraph? Well, yes, he did say that, and then expounded on the whole clash of principles. Please don't snip one thing and act like that is the be-all end-all. Given that my reply (and personal decision to support him) was based on his whole discussion about the issue, I believe your excerpt is misleading, and somewhat underhanded.
It reminds me of the drug-libertarians, yes, "trolling" around from thread to thread.

I'm with you. This is a screwy idea. Keyes is an embarassment to the GOP.
Frankly, I've read what I've written myself. Since that is the truth of it, why bother, eh? Although I appreciate the bumps, why carp? Believe me, Alan Keyes belongs in Illinois. Perhaps just as much as a Hoosier named Lincoln.
