Fellow FReepers,
One of our active members in the Illinois chapter, Unspun, has created an e-petition calling on Republican leaders on both the state and national level to immediately fully fund and support the U.S. Senate campaign of Dr. Alan L. Keyes.
I'm posting this on FR because all freepers across America are welcomed and encouraged to sign. And after you do, please forward it to others you know:
A re-elected President George W. Bush and our nation NEED Alan Keyes to assume Peter Fitzgerald's Senate seat. Fitzgerald was elected running as unapologetic conservative and that's exactly what Keyes is doing. Alan Keyes CAN win this election but only through the national efforts of conservatives everywhere. He is jumping into the race during the time of crisis when the Democrats are way ahead on fundraising.
It is especially important for Ambassador Keyes' wonderful voice of insightful American statesmanship and conscience to be heard in the Senate, instead of the liberal extremity represented by Barack Obama's Illinois State Senate votes.
This petition simply calls for Republican leaders to unite, to:
1. Introduce Alan Keyes to the campaign contributors they know.
2. Encourage the volunteers they know, to work for Dr. Keyes.
3. Strongly endorse Alan Keyes and work with his campaign
The time is short in this unique and historic campaign. The eyes of the nation are upon it. Alan Keyes' message must get to all the voters of Illinois.
The above link explains further. Opening it, you will see that this petition is starting to be being signed by dedicated Illinoisans and other Americans of principle, including grass roots and political leaders.
Won't you add your your name and town to the list?
The link to the petition itself is:

Thank you! Please pass it on! BUMP this thread!
See what a little freepmail can do? ;-)
uhummmm......do you want to comment?
Done--
Donate to Alan Keyes? Why don't you just go on the freeway, open your windows, and toss out $20 bills into the wind instead?
Same result.
You have the FreeRepublic logo on your post. Is this supported by Freerepublic.com?
Thanks for the opportunity to change my tag.
I'm only supporting Keyes if he doesn't carpetbag. He should run in Maryland, represent home not someplace you never lived.
I signed the petition. For some reason, the petition software claims that 19 people have signed it, but shows zero names on the signatories page.
A most excellent freepmail at that, Mr. Bill....
Wanted to keep pranksters from doing bad things with the list of names. They are being collected; it's working very well!
I only did it to find out. Nobody is going to get, it you know that don't you. ;)
Alan Keyes is here only at the request of the IL GOP, after learning that Obama is so extreme as to vote for leaving live babies to die outside the womb, not to mention Obama's anti-gun, anti-taxpayer, anti-freedom, EuroSocialism.
Keyes is lifting all Illinois boats. We don't need any negative waves.
Well they won't get why I thought of that today. But the base joke is pretty obvious.
As soon as I get offline, I'm calling my county campaign chair. We already have a Keyes sign from the announcement rally (kindly brought to me by a friend who went) in our front screen door window.
Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's just give the Senate seat to a guy who loves the UN, partial-birth abortion and using our tax dollars to fund forced abortions in China! That'll be real conservative!
I'm in Illinois and I'm in the fight. What's your problem?
2. Carpetbaggers (especially Hillary and the second generation of Kennedys) tend to parachute in and land on legitimate homegrown talent, excluding them from the race. This was not the case in Illinois. We had nobody. Jim Oberweis was the best vote-getter we had, and he's a walking bag of manure.
3. Do you really think we should let a real died-in-the-wool socialist and cheerleader for baby-killing just waltz into this Senate seat over a technicality like carpetbagging? Do you understand at all that this Obama puke could be President someday if he has this seat to run from? We need to fight this one, and I don't care if the GOIP pick is from France if he's a real conservative and can make it a real race.
1 - it's carpetbagging when you run somewhere you don't live, getting an engraved invitation form the party only means that the state party machine is horribly broken
2 - There's millions of people in Illinois, roughly 1/3 of them are registered Republican and at least half of them are over the age of 30 and can legally run for Senate. The illusion that you had nobody is 100% BS.
3 - Keyes is gonna get whipped like a redheaded stepchild, "inviting" him to carpetbag isn't going to stop Obama from winning, if anything it will ensure it, no way a hard-right conservative like Keyes can win in Daley country. Bringing in Keyes is throwing in the towel, not only will you lose this election but you've just announced to the Illinois Dems that their competition is thuroughly bereft of talent and might as well close shop. You should care if the GOIP pick is from France, that would be a blatant violation of the Constitution as written (as opposed to just the intent like Keyes' run), for the party that's supposed to actually respect the Constitution that's a disgustingly reprehensible thing to say.

I like this guy. Have we met, yet?
My problem is you're wasting money and effort on a lost cause.
There's a presidential election and about a dozen other senate races that could either be won or lost by the Republican candidate. That's where I am putting my money/effort.
Tom Coburn of OK is a good strong conservative man who can actually WIN his senate race.
Fine, we're talking about Illinois, and we need to work with Alan Keyes here and build the base. If we do, we just might win. Don't rain on our parade, thanks.
