Anti-Kerry Vietnam Veterans Hold Strong |
The following statement from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is in response to an article appearing in the morning edition of the Boston Globe ("Veteran Retracts Criticism of Kerry") which implies that one Vietnam Veteran wishes to retract an affidavit he signed regarding John Kerry's actions during and after Kerry's time in Vietnam. The signed affidavit can be seen below.
"Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in today's edition of the Boston Globe by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that the ad be played. [See both affidavits below.] "Additional documentation will follow. The article by Mr. Kranish is particularly surprising given page 102 of Mr. Kranish's own book quoting John Kerry as acknowledging that he killed a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong soldier whom he was afraid would turn around. "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 supporters who are revealing first hand, eyewitness accounts of numerous incidents concerning John Kerry's military service record. The organization will continue to discuss much of what John Kerry has reported as fact concerning his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam." |

Will the Boston Globe print a retraction?
Will Michael Moore ask forgiveness?
BTTT!
Perhaps if we all write to the ombudsman:
ombud@globe.com
I wrote this morning asking for it to appear on the FRONT PAGE (not hidden on page 17)
The ad will do some damage to Kerry regardless of how hard the DNC works to brand the Swiftboat Vets as liars. The controversy is a good thing because the ad is getting lots of free airplay on radio and tv nation-wide.
Jim Angle, sitting in for Brit Hume, just reported the retraction story, without correcting it. Grrr.
Jim Angle just reported the Michael Krainish, Globe story as truth. He quoted the Krainish story, which quotes Elliot as saying his statements against Kerry make him look a little silly. I am so mad. I can't believe it.
I wish I could find a phone number for FOX News. This is one time where firing off an email is not very satisfying.
Maybe this was all a brilliantly conceived and executed rope-a-dope operation. Kranish is discredited, along with the Globe. Both must now defend against the charge that their "reporting" on Kerry is deceptive, given Kranish's role in Kerry's book. More media attention will be focused on Elliot, Letson (Kerry's doctor in '68, his lawyers' denials notwithstanding) and the substance of the ad. SwiftVets must have known it would be tough to break through the media's tendency to ignore or discredit Kerry's criics; lots of them have experience in planning battles. Whether by design or no, they have helped give the story legs.
Fox news just reported the LYING boston globe story WITHOUT COMMENT! zero FOLLOWUP! The man has come out and said the Globe LIED.
FAILING THAT PART OF THE STORY IS JUST PLAIN SLOPPY.
Why is fox refusing to contact these vets and ASK DIRECTLY!
wHO IS IN CHARGE BHAGDAD BOB?
I think Baghdad Bob has been giving them tips.
I believe they know this is potentially powerful and want their ducks in a row before they launch it.
Fox News has joined the left. Evidently they have not hired journalists seeking the fair & balanced truth. Facts escape them.
There is no depth no probe no "other side" they just are reading the transcript of the DNC talking points verbatim.
The globe article was totally discredited by 2pm.
yet fox is reporting the old facts not the new facts.
internet wins again.
Unless Elliot comes out and fixes this right away, he is the Achilles heel the Dems need to end this ad.
I know, I read that the new news editor that they hired a couple of months ago, came from CNN or someplace almost as bad. I think that he is sabotaging FOX.
I heard that FOX hired a leftist from CNN or somewhere, as the news editor a few month ago. I think that he is sabotaging FOX.
