Kerry/Edwards lawyers warn TV stations over Swift Boat ad
Rush ^ | August 5, 2004 | unknown

Posted on 08/05/2004 12:01:48 PM PDT by mcg1969

In Rush's closing segment he said that he just received a story or document saying that lawyers for both the Kerry and Edwards teams were sending out letters to TV stations warning them about showing the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth advertisement!

Look, this is a 527 ad---just like MoveOn.org's ads. The only way it stays alive is if we the people buy the time for it. You don't see FOX or CNN dissecting MoveOn.Org's ads on the news, and you won't see them do this one too much, either.

So if we want this to stay on the air, we have to head over to swiftvets.com (once their web site gets fixed) and donate.

I'd like to see the exact context where you found that. CBS misrepresented the administration's statements, for example. When I read the transcript from Scott McClellan it was clear they were careful not to condemn the content; rather they were talking about the use of soft money for advertising. The media seems to have spun that as condemning the ad and its content altogether.

But if you produce direct quotes that contradict me that's fine, I don't mind being wrong.

I'd say these people have a Karl Rove obsession.

Wishful thinking on the part of CBS.

I heard Scott twice--both times on Fox, so I regret I don't have a source but believe he will be quoted over and over. It was very disturbing to hear him use this word, and to hear him say that the Administration was encouraging Kerry to deplore these types of ads as well. Of course I hope I'm wrong but that really stuck with me.

I would also add this. This advertisement has the potential to cause real problems for Bush. First, it motivates the Dems to bring up Bush's Vietnam service. Yes, we all know it's a crap issue, but it may regain political legs and be a thorn in Bush's side. And if that's the case, then it may dampen the negative impact of the ad, and make it difficult for Bush to make the case that Kerry's Senate record proves he's unfit for duty.

Let's face it, as Kerry's Dem convention speech made clear, Kerry would love nothing more than to keep the focus off his Senate record.

Brit Hume was a huge disappointment. Appears his all-stars are pulling back from the story.

They, too, are being threatened by 3 Democrats in Washington for their so called right wing bias. Three Democrats held a meeting about it. It was in another thread. They're attempting to censor FOX.
The Democrats, like they did using political correctness in the '90's, are attempting to silence all through fascist litigation, from any descent against any Democrat.
The most powerful left wing weapon is silencing the American people. If people are forced into silence, only the democrat side gets heard. There's even a film out now, no joke, like Fahrenheit 9/11 showing the bias at FOX. They're under fascist attack just like the vets.

I haven't read all these posts so forgive if this is a repeat.

One wonder did happen about this threatening crap sent out by the filthy lawyers of the kerry kampaign as well as lawyers for the DNC.

A station manager from a HUGELY liberal area called into Sean's show and said he was going to be running THIRTY MINUTES of this heartfelt message regarding kerry's unfitness to lead the United States of America.

Sean was pleased and so are we!!

This guy manages a major television station and said the packet the Swift Boat Veterans sent out as background was so well documented and thorough that he was impressed and willing to show the ads.

The vile letter from the kampaign and DNC said that anyone who runs it would be liable since it was not a federal something or other!

BRING UM ON!!!

GP SWIFT VETS!! And thank you guys for caring enough about your country to help prevent a genuine liar from EVER leading this good and wondrous nation! You were heros in Vietnam and you are continuing that tradition by caring enough to fight for your nation on the INSIDE>...Right where we need it just now!

I hope Brit and FNC give this a good airing. But this is a good test...If FNC takes a dive on this one, it will be pretty solid proof that FNC has been corrupted.

I had high hopes that Britt & Co would run with this story. At the minimum, I expected a little journalism. Didn't happen. O'Reilly, the entertainer, is on now. We now know Murdoch's agenda.

Based on your statement it could be somebody is threatening "Access" to politicians.

There are glimmers where fox just nails a question or hits a report out of the park and then there are moments were they seem to get "inside the beltway disease".

Which three democrats are threatening fox?

I bet if the chief political corespondent assigned to kerry was an actual reporter rather than cheerleader Kamp Kerry would boot him off the bus.

Exactly. One would expect a little investigate journalism...not the kind of herd mentality that now even Fox is exhibiting. I'm pissed.

I have heard this position put forward but I don't know if I buy it. One of Brit's all-stars said that, if the "war records" were compared, Kerry comes out on top.

Susan Estrich is calling out one of the SwiftVets on MSNBC. Couldn't stay with it, though. Anyone watch her?

Hannity seems to be taking the ball and running with it. Guess he's now their only point man.

Hello! Here in St. Louis, there is a talk show that is in no way a conservative show (The Dave Glover Show) This afternoon, they devoted a big hunk of the show to how ticked off they were to have gotten the DNC fax re: don't show the ad. Now, they did not say they agreed with the ad, even saying that the vets in the ad could be lying, but the threat from the DNC had them pretty upset. Very interesting.

BTW: I am a long time lurker, glad to be here!
