You wouldn't know it from the reaction of the Kerry-worshipping media, which is bent on sending the Massachusetts senator to the White House, but his much-vaunted campaign is headed for the rocks.
In the wake of the no-bounce convention which the media is at a loss to explain, the polls stubbornly cling to the notion that the race between Kerry and President Bush will go down to the wire as a neck and neck tie. Given the fact that the only bounce thus far went to the Bush campaign in the post-convention days, there's every reason to believe that the president's chances will continue to improve and Kerry's will continue to dwindle.
Why? Because when you get down to it, all the Kerry-Edwards campaign has in its issue arsenal is their hatred of George W. Bush, and that's not a theme that will get you elected. You have to be able to stand for something and have a background that will enable you to achieve it. Hating Bush, showcasing my misguided younger brother Ron at the convention, dragging Ben Affleck around on the campaign trail, pretending to eat lunch at Wendy's just like regular folks when your real gourmet lunch is waiting for you on the bus outside, and recalling for the umpteenth time that you served in Vietnam just won't cut it.
So what we are watching now is the implosion of the Kerry campaign and it's happening three months before the election. If his campaign continues to roll down the hill at its current speed by the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November there will only be bits and pieces of it left.
Missing 38 out of 49 Senate Intelligence Committee meetings, Kerry displays a startling ignorance of just what is going on in the war on Islamic terrorism. His current spiel is that the president hasn't reacted quickly enough to the recommendations of the 9-11 commission that just came out. That ignores all kinds of things the president has been doing since 9-11 to tighten our security such as the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and a drastic reorganization of the FBI. And testifying to the effectiveness of these reforms is the fact that we haven't been the victims of any terrorist attacks here at home in the last three years.
There's a reason for that. The president kept our nation safe by taking the fight to the enemy's homeland, rather than having the battle fought in our streets and cities here at home. The public understands all this, but poor John Kerry thinks that the American people really are as dumb as he and his buddy Michael Moore portray us.
Kerry is going around pledging to get NATO involved in Iraq. The problem for him is that NATO is already involved, training Iraqi troops. This is what happens when you don't go to the meetings.
Since going out on the campaign trail, Kerry has made a point of sharing the podium with his outspoken wife Teresa Heinz Kerry (what's all this insisting upon having your maiden name inserted in all references to yourself Heinz Kerry, Rodham Clinton all about?). By showcasing her, he simply emphasizes the stark difference between his wife and Laura Bush, a genuine, honest-to-goodness lady. It's simply no contest. As the old-time movie characters were wont to say, "I like you baby, you've got class." Laura Bush has class.
When you watch this campaign you realize there is no choice George Bush is the only choice. The contest is between people who have class and people who are just angry, and the only phrase they can think of to describe Bush supporters is "goons."
John Kerry is starting to make his former boss, Michael Dukakis, look presidential.
Beautiful!! Hits the nail on the head over and over.
It all comes down to one reason why Kerry will lose big time: He`s a phony. He fakes his heritage, his money, his name, his medals, his record, and he makes pretend he eats Wendys.
Good article!
Actually, I don't think many of them are truly enthusiastic about Kerry. They're enthusiastic about being anti-Bush, but not about their candidate. So I think we have to be careful not to go overboard.
The truth and nothing but the truth will serve perfectly well to expose Kerry, but the real hardcore Dem doesn't actually care what he's like. However, we shouldn't start crowing in such a way that we actually end up making less hard-core people sympathetic to him. Americans can be sentimental idiots sometimes, and we don't want him to look like the wounded puppy that everybody wants to take home and cuddle.
I think we've got to get out and show our fangs (i.e., tell the truth), then step back for a bit; come out and show them again, then step back, etc. Keep them off balance so they can't stir up the sympathy vote. After all, the truth is on our side, so this shouldn't be too difficult.
I, personally, think Kerry, or perhaps Teresa, will have a genuine "Dean moment" before too long.
Kerry evidently started to lose it over bullhorns and thus the "goons" remark, and Teresa's "four more years of hell."
A person to person confrontation (like in the Wendy's) will probably be what brings the campaign to it's knees. The man does not know how to handle the public, or public questioning.
And since now he's in the "national media's eye", it will all be caught on tape.
Y'know, I wonder all of a sudden why Michael Dukakis hasn't been seen within 10 miles of Ketchup Boy.

Kerry cant run on his no show record as a Senator...his record as a prosecutor....his 'war record' is all he has....that and his empty promises...
The men who served with him...will pull his so called war record right out from under him....
Not even the best Hollywood liars can provide him with enough 'make believe' to keep the truth from exposing his rotten core
He is so over....its pathetic...the Republicans wont even have to worry about the "Gun Votes" this time out...even a lot of moderate lefites will vote for GW
imo
9/11 was never repeated--thanks to President Bush!
I'm sending my $25 to www.swiftvets.com today.
Rush said himself Monday, I think. John F*ckin' will have a Howard Dean moment and he will melt down. Oh it will be fun to watch. If he can't run a campaign free of images like the worst moments of cinematic and American history ("The Titanic" and the American helicopter exodus from the American Embassy in Saigon), its a sense of what his White House years are going to be like. Let's face it, the man may be long on speeches but his ability to deliver has yet to be tested.
Theresa already had her "Dean" moment when she told a reporter to "shove it." However, she is getting a pass on it.
marriage of conveniance, and she has her own vindictive liberal political agenda. Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Supreme Court or Congress enacts a Law prohibiting a foreign-born spouse from the White House as a Presidents wife? I am curious if that is covered anywhere in US Law???
Good post, and I agree also.
Who once said, if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything?
I've said this a few times now, but I think Kerry really blew it with his DNC speech. It was appalling. It covered all bases, without saying ANYTHING. Nowhere in that speech was there an iota or inkling of how he was going to achieve anything.
I watched it and thought: 'Does he REALLY think the American people are THAT stupid?'
Several early Presidents had "foreign born" wives. Remember, this place was part of a different country right up to the Treaty of Paris.
I, like many, believe GWB & Co. will be re-elected, but "shut the Bush Haters in the Democratic Party up for good"? Not in my life time.
We must retain hope, though. ;)
I just spent my daily 30 minutes on DU for my morning laugh. They are upbraiding any of their fellow lefties who try and bring up the issues raised by the Swift Boaters. They're in a see-no-evil,speak-no-evil,hear-no-evil mode which is hilarious to watch.
Others on their board are opining on whether or not they should "take to the streets" and revolt to overthrow the government if Kerry loses. Too funny! Can you imagine a bunch of lefty, gay-loving weenies threatening the America-loving, gun-toting patriots who comprise the majority in this country. I'm just shakin' in my boots.
bump
They want anarchy. Be careful what you wish for, lefty. Anarchy would not be kind to them.
I find it interesting that Mike was adopted and Ron Jr. was not, yet based on the political views, one would think the opposite.
