Scenes in Fahrenheit 911 of U.S. soldiers taunting and sexually humiliating Iraqi civilians following the successful invasion were shot by Urban Hamid, an embedded Swedish-Iraqi journalist who is presently a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado, the university's student newspaper Camera disclosed today (Tuesday). Moore has declined to respond to questions from interviewers about whether he resorted to subterfuge in order to embed photographers among U.S. forces and has been criticized for not showing footage of the abuses to U.S. military authorities earlier. But Camera reported that the controversial footage by Hamid was actually shown at a theater in Boulder as long ago as March 1 and was subsequently brought to Moore's attention. Hamid, who has lived in the U.S. for the past 12 years, told the newspaper that he has returned to Iraq three times in the past year, presumably to continue to document the course of the war. "Every time I go back, it seems it's gotten worse ... When I last went back, people were so tired and exhausted and had lost hope. It's extremely sad to see."
I am not mischaracterizing the article. He saw the good and the bad, but gave Iraq a 50/50 chance which I found good odds. Coming from a person at UCSB and being printed in the VC Star, the article was surprisingly even-handed. My comment was comparing it to Moore and his cronies. The failure of Iraq is central to their hopes, and reporting anything positive coming from the American liberation is not what they want to do.
I'm back. I can't get the video to play, but it's my computer, I'm pretty sure. I've been having problems with the players. I need to have my husband look at the situation.
However, Senor said Iraqi police arrested Berg in Mosul on March 24 because local authorities believed he may have been involved in "suspicious activities."
We've noted this before, but what exactly was the reason the local authorities believed Nick Berg was involved in "suspicious activities"?
Nita, please see that this Urban Hamid was recently of Boulder Colorado, and Maggie has noted that Berg had interacted in Baghdad with Andrew Duke, also of Boulder. Did you ever find out what business Andrew Duke was affiliated with?
Still works in my realplayer!!
let's hope hamid is not captured and beheaded as a result of Moore's vile film...how many Americans will be killed now, as a result?
Know I'm stating the obvious, but Muslims don't eat pigs.
Kick the SOB out of this country. He has no business being here.
Thanks Howlin, methinks we were on track on that thread...this guy even got 'kidnapped' for an hour. An hour??? Hmmmmmmmmmm

We should all send it to the media outlets! If we did and it wasn't reported it would tell us a whole lot about what's going on with the coverage of the war.
The best answer to the propaganda of the Left would be a full-length documentary on what our soldiers have achieved in Iraq to help the ordinary people, such as building roads, water systems, schools, hospitals, even providing tons and tons of school supplies. They have transformed 2,358 schools nationwide. Our troops even put together and delivered over 1 million school supply kits to eager Iraqi children. Personally, I would love to see a film about this.
You wouldn't even have to mention Bush's name, thereby getting around the McCain-Feingold campaign restrictions.

This movie mogul doesn't live in Hollywood. A Denver billionaire, Anschutz owns 78% of Regal Entertainment Group, which in turn controls the largest theater chain in the U.S., including United Artists Theatres and Regal Cinemas. He says he got into the entertainment business in order to make family films, so that gives you an idea of his core values.
Among other things, his company acquired the rights to make films of C.S. Lewiss Narnia Chronicles, and their most recent production was "Around the World in 80 Days," the Jackie Chan movie which just reached the theatres.
Sorry I couldn't find his email on the Internet. Maybe some of you techno-whizzes can do that for us.
We don't need any codebreakers for this....JMO
Thanks Howlin. The cast of characters is growing. This Hamid guy, a real sweetheart isn't he? And now he suddenly pops up out of nowhere? Showed the prison 'abuse' photographs long before MM got hold of them, did he?
Does that sound like a cover for MM or what?
Hey, if Hamid didn't exist, MM would have to make him up!
I can't get that date October 24, 2003 out of my head. That's the datestamp on the Lynndie England photograph with the dogleash...this entire MM/Berg/Hamid/Duke story seems to start way back before April/May 2004.
I believe the folks from "Iraq the model" were interviewed for "usa today".
Kidnapped for an hour...while his driver waited...
I'll have hubby take a look (I'm computer illiterate!).
On April 8, no less. Berg last heard from on April 9.
Just a coincidence?
Miss Marple did an analysis of that email on that long research thread.
:)
But you're right. Something odd there--since his company didn't have stock.
My suspicion is that Moore went to visit Berg's parents because he had to find out how much they knew so that he'd be able to determine how big of a lie he could get away with.
Either that, or he paid them off to buy their silence.
placemark.
